When George entered the Chairman's office, he found Michael standing by the window, looking like a dark god silhouetted against the city skyline.
"Did you bring the girl here?" Michael asked, turning slowly.
George's brain did a frantic tap-dance immediately.
"Well... yes. I was going to take her to Evelyn, but the kid is a rebel. She said she had 'business' and ran off. I've been looking for her!"
Michael's sharp gaze pinned him to the spot. "Is she truly your sister's 'friend's' child?"
"That's what Evelyn says!" George squeaked, nearly cracking under the pressure of Michael's stare. "Where is she? Is she okay?"
"She's sleeping in the lounge," Michael replied, finally breaking the tension.
As George ducked into the lounge to check on Clara, Michael's phone buzzed with a text from Evelyn: "In the future, we will not meet in private again!"
