Chapter 264: WHAT?! The Car Just Shot Webbing!

"This is unbelievable — I already thought Hell's Kitchen's residents were tough, but I had NO idea they were tough on THIS level!" one viewer typed, watching in disbelief as Hell's Kitchen locals stood their ground against the hulking, Hulk-like Revenant with heavy weaponry, faces set with grim, unshakable resolve, like they meant to erase the thing from existence.

"Used to think it was wild enough that Hell's Kitchen's people would fight back against the military. Turns out these people genuinely fear NOTHING," another viewer marveled.

Another watched a Hell's Kitchen local, cigarette dangling from his lips, unloading a mounted machine gun into Revenant with a wild, gleeful grin, clearly savoring every second of the fight.

"Honestly, I'm starting to lose track of who the actual villain is supposed to be here. These Hell's Kitchen guys have main-character energy — they're acting like the final boss, not the good guys," someone mused.

Watching Revenant getting swarmed and pummeled from every side, one viewer actually started feeling sorry for the poor thing, half-jokingly pleading its case in the comments.

"They only get away with acting this fearless because they've got the Lord of Hell's Kitchen backing them up. Everyone knows as long as Ethan's around, nothing bad can really happen to them," someone else observed, a note of envy in their tone — equal parts jealous of Hell's Kitchen's residents and thoroughly in awe of the mysterious Ethan Cross himself.

Despite all that firepower, though, Revenant didn't seem particularly hurt by any of it.

Emil Blonsky — Revenant's actual name — let out a furious roar.

He'd once been an ordinary agent, before gamma radiation exposure had twisted him into this green-skinned monster.

Not long ago, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents had managed to capture him and locked him away in their deepest holding cell.

Down there, their scientists had made a habit of pulling him out periodically for research.

Today, for reasons he had absolutely no idea about, they'd suddenly cut him loose.

After free-falling from tens of thousands of feet and slamming into the ground, he'd transformed into Revenant instantly, and before he'd even had a chance to get his bearings, a crowd of people was already attacking him from every direction.

Facing down that much firepower left him furious and in pain, but nothing close to actually lethal.

His skin was practically iron-hard — none of it was doing any real damage, felt more like being tickled than hurt. But the sheer audacity of these ant-sized creatures actually daring to attack him sent him into a blind rage!

He lunged straight for the nearest cluster of Hell's Kitchen residents, who scattered immediately, firing back at him even as they fled.

Which only made him angrier.

Then he spotted a car barreling straight toward him. Without hesitation, he slammed both hands into the ground, trying to rip up the pavement itself.

To his confusion, no matter how hard he strained, the ground didn't budge an inch.

Off in the distance, Ethan just smiled faintly. "Can't have you wrecking the buildings — repairs around here don't come cheap, you know."

Thanks to the Homestead system, nobody was tearing up Hell's Kitchen's infrastructure that easily — not even a single tree.

Which meant Pietro sailed straight past Revenant without a hitch.

"Lucky us," Domino said, watching their car glide effortlessly past the green giant.

"Though I'm guessing whoever's behind us might not be so lucky," she added, a thoughtful little smile crossing her face.

Domino's ability, activated.

Domino's power wasn't really "luck" in the traditional sense — it worked more by shifting the probability of outcomes to match her intentions. First, she needed to form a specific intent. Second, whatever she wanted affected had to be within her direct line of sight.

If she fired a gun at someone, for instance, intending specifically to hit them, and that person was somewhere within her sightline — even if the odds of landing the shot were normally slim, her power would push those odds sharply upward.

The reverse worked too — if someone fired at her and she saw it coming, and formed the intent to dodge, their chance of actually hitting her would collapse instead.

This whole race, her operating intent had simply been: we pass every other racer. And so, they had.

Now, she activated her power again — with the intent that Revenant would go on to attack whoever came through next.

Sure enough, under the influence of her power, Revenant seemed to grow even more unhinged, his whole body driven by some uncontrollable compulsion, roars tearing out of him one after another, shaking everything nearby. His eyes burned crimson, blazing with fury directed at absolutely everything around him.

Just then, Revenant spotted another car heading his way. He frowned in confusion, unable to understand why neither the ground nor the buildings around here seemed to break no matter what he did. But if he couldn't tear it apart, he'd just run straight through it! With a furious roar, his massive body surged forward, unstoppable.

Second place at that point belonged to Takumi and Itsuki. The moment Itsuki spotted the green giant charging toward them, his face went white with terror. "TURN AROUND, TAKUMI, TURN AROUND! GO BACK! I'M STILL A VIRGIN, I DON'T WANNA DIE!" With that, sheer panic overwhelmed him and he passed out cold.

Takumi was scared too, if he was honest — but underneath the fear was something closer to exhilaration. This was, without question, the most intense race he'd ever been part of, and he wanted first place. His hands tightened on the wheel, eyes locked dead ahead. The instant Revenant was about to collide with them, Takumi reacted — a sharp brake, followed by a beautifully executed drift-turn, slipping past Revenant with inches to spare.

One burst of acceleration later, and Takumi had shaken Revenant off entirely. He let out a triumphant shout, feeling, in that moment, like the undisputed king of the race.

Revenant, though, was livid. He hadn't expected this tiny insect of a creature to actually dodge his attack. He turned to chase Takumi down and teach him a lesson — but then he heard another engine roaring up from behind. He spun around just in time to see yet another car bearing down on him. And all around him, more of these tiny insects were still attacking, wearing on his patience further.

Furious, Revenant turned the full weight of his rage onto Hell's Kitchen's own residents.

But every single time he tried to crush one of these little bugs underfoot, a dark shape would swoop in and yank them clear at the last second.

Ethan's Shadow Corps, at work.

"So, are you going to end this farce, or not?" Tony asked, glancing over at Ethan.

"Why would I? This is just getting started. The race isn't stopping for this — and honestly, I think you might be underestimating them."

The moment Ethan finished speaking —

Xuan Yin's voice rang out, shocked: "WAIT — WHAT?! Did that car just shoot WEBBING?!"
