Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Ride Begins

As the multiversal army began to gather, the leaders realized that some forces were too volatile to be kept in close quarters. The Zynigami offspring was the primary concern. Its very presence was an affront to the living; wherever it stood, the grass withered and the air grew thin. It was death without a filter, a raw force of nature that had no concept of "allies" or "collateral damage." To bring it to the front lines too early would be to risk destroying the very reality they were trying to save.

Deep within the Soul Forest, a secondary base was established just for the creature. Donald and Micheal were tasked with its containment and training. It was a battle of wills that lasted for days. Donald had to slam his fists into the earth to create containment fields of solid granite, while Micheal wove his winds into intricate patterns to redirect the soul-blades the creature reflexively unleashed. They weren't trying to break its spirit; they were trying to give it a lens through which to focus its destruction.

The offspring resisted with an instinctual fury, its body flickering in and out of existence as it tried to bypass their defenses. It was like trying to cage a shadow. However, Donald's unwavering patience and Micheal's precise control slowly began to have an effect. They didn't speak to it with words, but through the language of combat and discipline. Slowly, the creature's chaotic energy began to stabilize, settling into a cold, sharp edge. It didn't become a soldier, but it became a weapon that could be pointed.

The Supreme God appeared briefly to inspect the progress. He looked at the creature and shook his head, warning that its power was so great that if it were unleashed prematurely, it would trigger a total collapse of the Reality Limits. "This being must march alone," the God commanded. A separate portal was opened—a dark, narrow rift that led through the "Between," a space where nothing lived and nothing died. It was a lonely, dangerous path that would take the offspring directly to the back door of Erif's domain.

The Zynigami offspring stepped toward the portal without a word of goodbye. It had no emotions to offer, only a singular purpose. As it vanished into the darkness, the air in the Soul Forest finally became breathable again. Donald and Micheal watched the portal close, knowing that they had just sent a reaper after a king. It was a move of pure desperation, a gamble that they hoped Erif would never see coming until the blade was at his neck.

With the creature gone, the rest of the army began their own preparations. They wouldn't take the shortcut; they would march through the safer, established paths, gathering more strength as they went. This was no longer a frantic retreat; it was a calculated hunt. For the first time since he had fused with Daniel, Erif felt a flicker of something he hadn't felt in eons. It wasn't fear—not yet—but it was the cold realization of inevitability. The story was moving toward a climax he hadn't written.
