Chapter 1 - Yours Truly, Nirbhaypur

Nirbhaypur—a name that lived up to its meaning, a place of strange, profound peace. Surrounded by green paddy fields, a small river flowed through its heart, and beside that river stood an ancient banyan tree. The village folk were simple, easy-going, and full of smiles.

In this very village lived a girl named Iti.

Iti was a bit different. She wasn't like the other girls who only focused on household chores; she loved to read books and spent hours dreaming by the riverside. There was a unique light in her eyes—as if she were searching for something that couldn't be found in this small village.

Iti's father was the village school teacher. He always used to say:

"To become a great person, it's not enough to just read books; one must also broaden their heart."

One day, a new boy named Arnab arrived in Nirbhaypur.

He came from the city because of his father's job transfer. On his very first day, he enrolled in the village school.

Stepping into the school, Arnab felt a bit uneasy. New faces, a new environment. But suddenly, his eyes fell upon Iti.

She was sitting by the window, her hair swaying in the breeze as she read her book with deep concentration.

Arnab thought to himself—

"This girl... she seems different."

🌿 The First Meeting

The teacher asked Arnab to sit next to Iti.

Arnab sat down with a bit of hesitation.

Iti looked up, gave a soft smile, and said:

"You're new here, aren't you?"

Arnab nodded and replied:

"Yes... I've come from the city."

Iti said:

"Welcome to Nirbhaypur."

That tiny conversation was the beginning of their friendship.

🌊 By the River

After a few days, Arnab and Iti started sitting by the river almost every day after school.

Iti would tell Arnab stories of the village, and Arnab would tell her stories of the city.

One day, Arnab asked:

"Do you ever want to leave this village?"

Iti stayed silent for a moment and then said:

"Yes... but then again, I feel like this village is my everything."

Arnab smiled and said:

"Then if you stay, I'll stay. If you go, I'll go too."

For the first time, Iti felt a blush creep over her face.

🌸 The Beginning of a Feeling

Days went by.

Their friendship was slowly turning into a different kind of feeling.

One day, it suddenly started raining.

Iti and Arnab were standing under the old banyan tree, getting drenched.

Arnab said:

"Iti... when I'm with you, everything feels easy."

Iti's heart skipped a beat.

The Depth of Love

After that rainy day, the relationship between Iti and Arnab was no longer the same. Neither of them said it out loud, but they both knew—this wasn't just friendship anymore.

Every morning, Arnab would wait for Iti before heading to school. As she walked toward him from a distance, it felt to Arnab as if the entire village had lit up.

One day, Iti asked with a soft smile,

"Why do you stand here every day?"

Feeling a bit shy, Arnab replied,

"I just like walking with you."

Iti didn't say a word; she simply stepped beside him.

🌿 Talking of Dreams

Sitting by the river one day, Iti said,

"I want to go to the city for my studies when I grow up... I want to make something of myself."

Looking at her, Arnab said,

"You can do it. You're not like the others; you're different."

After a brief silence, Iti asked,

"But if I have to go... what about you?"

Arnab smiled gently and said,

"Wherever you go, I'll be there... at least in spirit."

Hearing this, tears welled up in Iti's eyes, but she quickly hid them.

⚡ The Sudden Storm

Everything was going perfectly until, one day, everything changed.

Talks of Iti's marriage began at her house. Her parents wanted her to marry within the village and live a happy, settled life. Initially, Iti couldn't say a word, but a storm was raging inside her. That night, she sat alone by the river, silent tears streaming down her face.

🌊 Facing the Truth

The next day, Arnab found out everything. He ran to Iti and stood before her.

"Is it true?" Arnab's voice was trembling.

With her head bowed, Iti replied,

"Yes... they are arranging my marriage."

"Didn't you say anything?" Arnab asked.

Iti looked up and said,

"Can everyone truly live life on their own terms, Arnab?"

Those words broke Arnab's heart.

💔 The First Crack

Arnab asked,

"Then what about our love?"

Iti remained silent. There were tears in her eyes, but she tried to stay strong.

"I won't be able to forget you..." Arnab whispered.

With a faint, trembling voice, Iti said,

"Neither will I... but not all love is meant to end in togetherness."

The world around them seemed to fall into a heavy silence.

🌑 The Beginning of Darkness

After that, Iti and Arnab stopped meeting like they used to. Even living in the same village, they felt worlds apart. Arnab couldn't sleep at night. He would sit alone by the river where they once laughed together. Iti stayed inside most of the time, and dark circles began to appear under her eyes.

🔥 A Big Decision

Suddenly one day, Arnab decided—he wouldn't stay silent anymore.

He went and stood at Iti's doorstep. Everyone was shocked.

In a firm voice, Arnab said,

"I love Iti... and I want to marry her."

A heavy silence fell over the room.

Iti's father said in a stern tone,

"Life isn't sustained by love alone, son."

Arnab replied,

"But life isn't worth living without love either..."
