Chapter 104 - The Line She Draws

At 3:11 p.m., the room made its move.

Daniel's voice came through low and controlled.

"They've introduced documentation."

Evelyn didn't move.

"What kind?"

"Preliminary alignment note."

A beat.

"Non-binding."

Cassian exhaled once.

"There it is."

Non-binding.

The most dangerous phrase in the room.

Because it meant—

no consequences now.

Only later.

Damian looked at Evelyn.

"We're out of time."

Evelyn didn't answer.

She was listening.

Not to the report.

To the structure.

The moment.

The shift.

Then—

Daniel spoke again.

"She hasn't signed."

Silence.

Long.

Sharp.

Then—

"She's asking questions."

Cassian's gaze lifted.

"What kind?"

Daniel swallowed slightly.

"She asked if the note would affect future interpretation of her standing."

A pause.

"And whether refusal would be recorded."

The room in Hart residence went completely still.

Because that—

was the line.

Not emotional.

Not defensive.

Structural.

Evelyn closed her eyes for one second.

Then opened them.

"Now," she said.

Damian was already moving.

Cassian too.

Daniel grabbed his tablet.

Evelyn didn't rush.

She walked.

Because this moment—

had to be precise.

Not rescue.

Not interruption.

Arrival.

As they reached the exit, Damian glanced at her.

"If we're wrong—"

"We're not," Evelyn said.

A beat.

"She's already standing."

And for the first time since the floor was built—

someone else had reached it on her own.

Now—

they would make sure the room couldn't take it away.
