Chapter 6 - Taking Control

Silence dominated the hall.

Not the fragile kind—but the heavy, suffocating silence that came after absolute power had been displayed.

Kael stood at the center.

Blood-stained.

Unshaken.

Unchallenged.

Around him, the remaining disciples knelt, their heads lowered, bodies trembling. No one dared meet his gaze.

Not after what they had just witnessed.

Elder Varyn—dead.

Killed by the very disciple he had personally condemned.

Kael slowly stepped forward.

Each step echoed like a hammer striking their hearts.

"Look at me."

No one moved.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"I said… look at me."

One by one, they raised their heads.

Fear filled their eyes.

Good.

Kael stopped in front of them, his expression calm.

"You all saw what happened," he said. "So let me make this simple."

He glanced at Varyn's corpse.

"This is the fate of those who stand against me."

A wave of killing intent spread outward—not wild, not chaotic—but controlled.

Deliberate.

The disciples shuddered.

One of them, a young man with a pale face, swallowed hard.

"What… what do you want from us?"

Kael looked at him.

Then smiled faintly.

"Loyalty."

The word hit harder than any blade.

"From this moment on, you serve me."

Silence.

Then hesitation.

These were sect disciples.

Even if weak, they had pride.

Training.

Hierarchy.

Tradition.

To suddenly submit—

"Or," Kael added casually, "you can follow him."

He gestured at the corpse.

That ended the hesitation.

"We— we submit!"

"Yes! Senior Brother—no—Leader Kael!"

"I will follow you!"

One by one, they bowed deeply.

Kael watched.

Measured.

Calculated.

Not loyalty.

Fear.

But that was enough.

For now.

Kael's eyes flickered.

Interesting.

So this is how it works.

Power wasn't just taken.

It could be built.

He turned.

Liora was still standing where she had been, her sword lowered but not sheathed.

Watching him.

Carefully.

"You're not surprised," Kael said.

"I am," she replied calmly. "Just not shocked."

He chuckled softly.

"Then what are you thinking?"

"That you're dangerous."

Kael met her gaze.

"And yet you helped me."

Liora didn't answer immediately.

Then—

"Because he needed to die."

Simple.

Direct.

Honest.

Kael nodded slightly.

"Fair enough."

A pause.

Then he stepped closer.

The disciples instinctively lowered their heads again.

"Walk with me," Kael said.

It wasn't a request.

Liora studied him for a moment—

Then followed.

---

They exited the hall.

The outer courtyard of the sect came into view—quiet, unaware of the shift in power that had just occurred.

For now.

Kael stopped at the edge of the steps.

"This place is mine now," he said.

Liora raised an eyebrow.

"You're declaring control over an entire branch of the sect?"

Kael's gaze was calm.

"No."

He looked out across the grounds.

"I'm taking the first piece."

A faint smile formed.

"And then… everything else."

---

Behind him, the disciples remained kneeling.

Above them—

A new order had begun.
