Chapter 1 - Episode 1: The Day Everything Started Breaking

Episode 1: The Day Everything Started Breaking

The first rule Meera Patel learned in life was simple:

"Good girls don't become stories people talk about."

So she tried very hard not to become one.

She wore silence like perfume.

She smiled like permission.

She lived like she was always being watched.

Because in her world, even breathing too loudly could become a mistake.

But Rani Sharma never learned fear properly.

And that was the problem.

That morning started like every other morning.

Meera arrived at college early, avoiding eye contact, walking fast enough to remain unnoticed—but not fast enough to seem strange.

That balance was her survival skill.

Until she saw Rani.

Rani was already arguing near the college gate.

A group of boys surrounded her, laughing.

"Acting like a hero again?" one of them mocked.

Rani smirked. "If thinking is acting like a hero, then you all should try it sometime."

The boys laughed louder.

Meera stopped walking.

She shouldn't have.

But she did.

One of the boys stepped closer to Rani.

"You think you're special because you talk too much?"

Rani didn't move back.

That was her mistake—or maybe her power.

"Not special," she said calmly. "Just not scared of useless people."

The boy raised his hand slightly.

Not enough to hit.

Enough to threaten.

Meera's heart froze.

Something inside her snapped—but silently, like glass cracking without sound.

Before she could think, her feet moved.

"Stop."

Her voice was small.

But it cut through the noise.

Everyone turned.

Even Rani.

Meera stood there, breathing uneven.

For a second, she wanted to disappear.

But she didn't.

The boy laughed. "And who are you now?"

Meera swallowed.

She didn't know the answer.

Not anymore.

Rani stepped slightly in front of her.

"That's Meera," she said casually. "And she's not someone you should test."

Meera looked at Rani.

That sentence—she's not someone you should test—

felt like something no one had ever said about her before.

The boys finally left, still laughing.

But the damage stayed.

Not outside.

Inside.

When the crowd scattered, silence returned.

Rani turned to Meera.

"You didn't have to do that."

Meera whispered, "I don't know why I did."

Rani studied her for a moment.

Then said softly,

"Because you're tired of disappearing."

Meera didn't answer.

Because it was true.

And truth was dangerous.

Later that day, the college buzz changed.

Not about the boys.

Not about the argument.

But about Meera.

"She spoke back."

"She actually stood there."

"She's changing…"

Whispers followed her like shadows.

Meera felt them on her skin.

Every step heavier than the last.

In the empty classroom, she finally broke.

"I shouldn't have done that," she said quietly.

Rani leaned on the desk. "Why?"

"Now they'll talk about me."

Rani tilted her head. "They were already talking about you. You just finally gave them something real to say."

Silence.

Heavy again.

But different this time.

Less safe.

More alive.

Meera looked at her.

"I don't want trouble."

Rani smiled faintly.

"Then you picked the wrong world to be born in."

That night, Meera stood in front of the mirror for a long time.

Studying herself like a stranger.

Same face. Same name. Same life.

But something had shifted.

Like a door inside her had opened slightly… and refused to close again.

Her phone lit up.

A message from Rani:

"You didn't disappear today. I noticed."

Meera stared at it.

And for the first time…

She didn't know if being noticed was safe.

Or dangerous.

Somewhere else in the city, Rani sat on a rooftop, wind pulling at her hair, smiling at the night sky like she was waiting for a storm.

Because she could feel it coming.

Change never arrived quietly.
