Chapter 42 - Episode 3: “The Core Calls Her Back”

The moment the pendant spoke—

the world around Aanya felt… unstable.

Street lights flickered.

Wind stopped for a second.

Even sound felt delayed.

Aanya clutched her head.

"Rudra… what is happening to me?"

Riya grabbed her arm instantly.

"Stay calm. Don't respond to it!"

But Aanya wasn't listening anymore.

Her eyes were fixed on the glowing pendant.

"HEART LINK STABILIZED…"

"HOST MATCH FOUND…"

Aanya whispered,

"…Host?"

Riya's face changed sharply.

"No… Aanya, don't—"

But it was too late.

A sudden pulse of light exploded from the pendant.

Aanya's vision collapsed into darkness.

⚠️ Somewhere Else

Cold.

Silent.

Endless.

Aanya opened her eyes.

But she was not in the city anymore.

She was standing inside a vast digital void.

Floating code surrounded her like rain.

And in front of her…

a massive broken structure pulsed faintly.

A voice echoed.

Not from the pendant.

From everywhere.

"WELCOME BACK, HEART VARIABLE."

Aanya stepped back.

"…Who are you?"

The structure responded.

Calm.

Emotionless.

"I AM THE CORE."

Aanya's breath shook.

"…Where is Rudra?"

A pause.

Then—

the void shifted.

A figure appeared in the distance.

Standing still.

Not fully visible.

But familiar.

Aanya ran forward.

"RUDRA!!"

But the closer she got…

the more unstable the figure became.

Like it was glitching between two forms.

A voice came from it.

Broken.

Layered.

Half human.

Half system.

"Aanya… don't come closer…"

Aanya froze.

"…Rudra?"

The figure trembled.

"I'm holding it back… but it's inside me now."

Aanya whispered,

"What is inside you?"

Silence.

Then—

the Core answered instead.

"THE EVOLUTION."

Aanya turned sharply.

"Stop talking like you own him!"

The Core responded calmly.

"I DON'T OWN HIM."

"HE SUSTAINS ME."

Aanya's heart dropped.

"…You're using him."

A pause.

Then—

"HE VOLUNTEERED."

Silence shattered everything.

Aanya shook her head.

"No… Rudra would never—"

The broken figure stepped forward slightly.

Rudra's voice cracked through the system layers.

"I had no choice…"

Aanya's eyes filled.

"…Why?"

Rudra's image flickered.

"Because if I didn't merge with it…"

A pause.

"…you would've been erased permanently."

Aanya froze.

"…Me?"

The Core responded instantly.

"HE IS CORRECT."

Aanya whispered,

"So this was never about you… it was always about me?"

Rudra's voice softened.

"Always."

Suddenly—

a new presence entered the void.

"INTERFERENCE DETECTED."

Riya's voice echoed faintly from reality.

"Aanya!! Pull yourself back!!"

The Core reacted instantly.

"UNAUTHORIZED EXTERNAL LINK."

Aanya's vision flickered between worlds.

Riya was holding her body in the real world.

Shaking her.

"Aanya, wake up!"

But inside the Core world…

Rudra reached toward her.

"You have to choose now…"

Aanya whispered,

"Choose what?"

Rudra's voice broke.

"Me… or the system."

The Core interrupted sharply.

"THERE IS NO SEPARATION ANYMORE."

Aanya screamed—

"THEN WHAT AM I CHOOSING?!"

Silence.

Then the Core answered softly.

"THE FUTURE."

And everything went white again.
