Chapter 1 - BODY SWAP DINNER

It was supposed to be a normal night.

Riya had insisted they all meet before exams swallowed their lives. So five friends—Riya, Arjun, Nisha, Mehul, and Kabir—gathered at her house for what she dramatically called a "final peaceful dinner."

"Peaceful?" Kabir smirked. "With Mehul here? Impossible."

"Excuse me!" Mehul protested. "I bring energy."

"You bring chaos," Nisha corrected, smiling.

The room was warm, filled with laughter, the smell of fried rice, and the low hum of a playlist no one was really listening to. It felt safe. Familiar.

Until Riya brought out the coin.

The Coin

It wasn't shiny or new. It was old—darkened with age, with strange markings none of them could fully read.

"Found it at a roadside shop," Riya said. "The old man said it grants wishes."

Arjun sighed. "Of course he did."

"I'm serious!" she insisted. "He said, 'Be careful what you wish for when you share a meal.'"

Kabir leaned forward. "That's either deep… or a scam."

"Only one way to find out," Mehul said, already reaching for it.

Riya quickly pulled it back. "Wait! We all have to do it together. Before we eat."

They groaned, but agreed.

One by one, they placed a finger on the coin.

"Make a wish," Riya whispered.

Arjun smirked. "Fine. I wish I could understand what goes on in your heads."

"I wish I could escape my life for a bit," Nisha said quietly.

"I wish I could be someone else for a day," Mehul added.

Kabir grinned. "I wish life was more interesting."

Riya hesitated.

Then she said, "I wish we truly understood each other."

The Moment Everything Changed

They laughed it off and started eating.

For a while, nothing happened.

Then—

The lights flickered.

Once.

Twice.

The music stopped.

But the electricity didn't go out.

The fan was still spinning.

"Okay… that's weird," Nisha said.

A sudden chill filled the room.

The windows were shut.

The air felt… heavy.

Then, without warning—

Everything went black.

The Swap

Riya woke up gasping.

Her heart was racing.

Something felt… wrong.

Her hands looked bigger.

Her voice—when she spoke—was deeper.

"Why do I sound like—"

"—me?" Arjun's voice interrupted.

But it wasn't coming from Arjun.

It was coming from her own body.

They froze.

Then chaos exploded.

"I'm not me!" Mehul shouted—except he sounded like Nisha.

"Why am I in Kabir's body?!" Nisha yelled.

Kabir stared at his reflection in a spoon. "I look like Mehul… this is a nightmare."

Arjun looked down at himself—Riya's hands, Riya's face.

"This isn't possible."

But it was.

They had swapped bodies.

Adjustment

The first hour was pure confusion.

Walking felt wrong.

Even breathing felt different.

Mehul (in Nisha's body) tripped over nothing.

Kabir (in Mehul's body) kept touching his face in disbelief.

Riya (in Arjun's body) struggled with how heavy everything felt—his voice, his posture, his presence.

And Arjun…

Arjun, now in Riya's body, went quiet.

Something Deeper

At first, they tried to fix it.

They shouted at the coin.

They tried wishing again.

Nothing worked.

Then something strange started happening.

They began feeling things they shouldn't.

Not just physically.

Emotionally.

Arjun (in Riya's body)

He felt a constant pressure.

The need to keep everything perfect.

To keep everyone happy.

To never mess up.

And underneath it all—

Fear.

"Riya…" he said softly. "You feel like this all the time?"

Riya (in his body) looked at him.

And didn't answer.

Riya (in Arjun's body)

She felt expectations.

Heavy ones.

Like no matter what she did, it wasn't enough.

Like she had to always have answers.

Always be strong.

She clenched her fists.

"So this is why you act like you don't care," she said.

Arjun gave a small, tired smile.

Nisha (in Kabir's body)

She felt something unexpected.

Loneliness.

Hidden behind jokes.

Behind laughter.

Behind pretending everything was fine.

She looked at Kabir.

"You're not as okay as you act, are you?"

Kabir looked away.

Mehul (in Nisha's body)

He noticed something uncomfortable.

People didn't listen.

Even when he spoke, it felt like his words didn't carry weight.

He swallowed.

"I think… I interrupt you a lot," he admitted.

Nisha gave a small nod.

The Second Realization

Hours passed.

The panic faded.

Silence took its place.

The coin sat in the center of the table.

Unmoving.

Watching.

Waiting.

"This wasn't random," Riya said.

"No," Arjun agreed. "It gave us exactly what we asked for."

They looked at each other.

Not as themselves.

But as each other.

The True Wish

Riya slowly placed her hand on the coin again.

"This time… no jokes."

One by one, they joined her.

"I wish I understood you better," Arjun said.

"I wish I listened more," Mehul added.

"I wish I didn't hide everything," Kabir said quietly.

"I wish I spoke up more," Nisha whispered.

Riya closed her eyes.

"I wish we stayed like this long enough to never forget this feeling."

The room went silent.

The air grew cold again.

The lights flickered—

Darkness swallowed everything.

Back to Normal…?

When they woke up—

They were back.

Same bodies.

Same room.

Same unfinished dinner.

Everything looked normal.

But no one moved.

No one spoke.

Finally, Kabir laughed nervously. "Okay… that was insane."

"Yeah," Mehul said. "But at least it's over."

Riya frowned.

"Is it?"

The Twist

Later that night…

They all went home.

Everything seemed fine.

Until the next morning.

At school—

Arjun walked into class.

Confident.

Relaxed.

Too relaxed.

He sat in Riya's seat without realizing.

Riya walked in moments later—

And froze.

Arjun was writing in her handwriting.

Perfectly.

Without thinking.

Meanwhile, Nisha interrupted someone mid-sentence—

Then suddenly stopped, shocked at herself.

Kabir laughed loudly—

Then went quiet, like he didn't mean to.

Mehul raised his hand to speak—

Then hesitated, unsure.

They all looked at each other.

Something was still there.

Not a full swap.

But pieces of each other.

Memories.

Feelings.

Habits.

That evening, Riya checked the coin again.

The markings had changed.

There was a new line etched into it:

"Understanding once gained… cannot be undone."

Ending

They never swapped bodies again.

But they didn't need to.

Because a part of each of them now lived inside the others.

And every time they sat down for dinner after that—

They listened more.

Laughed differently.

And understood…

That sometimes, the most powerful change isn't becoming someone else—

It's finally seeing them.

If you want, I can make a Part 2 where the swap starts happening randomly again (like during exams or arguments 😈) or turn this into a horror version where the coin has a darker intention.
