Chapter 78 - Chapter 78: The Resolve to Protect

Wednesday pursed her lips, also opening the door, ready to leave.

"Where are you going?"

Enid asked, her voice still carrying a lingering trace of anxiety for Victor.

"To ask Principal Larissa."

Wednesday's steps didn't pause, and her voice was cold.

"As Victor's aunt, she definitely knows something."

"Wait," Enid hesitated, quickening her pace to follow.

"But... Victor didn't tell us himself, which means he might... not want us to know."

Wednesday stopped at the end of the corridor, turned around, and her dark eyes swept over Enid. She raised an eyebrow: "You can stay here. Rest assured..."

She paused, her tone carrying a near-cruel honesty, "I won't tell you what I find out afterward, either."

Having said that, she turned and continued toward the Principal's office.

Enid stood frozen, struggling for two seconds, but finally jogged after her.

Hearing the footsteps behind her, Wednesday didn't look back, only imperceptibly slowing her pace by half a step.

"What," her voice remained steady and flat, "Did you change your mind?"

"I just... want to understand Victor better."

Enid lowered her head, her voice quiet but filled with resolve.

The Principal's office door was ajar.

Ms. Larissa Weems was behind her desk, frowning at a checklist on a light screen, her fingers rapidly scrolling. She was clearly preparing anxiously for the upcoming Weekend Parents' Day.

A knock sounded at the door, but before she could say "Come in," the door was unceremoniously pushed open.

Wednesday walked straight in, followed by Enid, who looked slightly uneasy but whose eyes were firm.

"Miss Addams, Miss Sinclair."

Principal Larissa lifted her gaze from the light screen, rubbing her brow, seemingly with a hint of fatigue.

"Is there something you need, coming to see me at this hour?"

"We want to know about Victor's parents."

Wednesday got straight to the point, without any pleasantries.

"When Victor mentioned them today... his expression wasn't right."

Enid added softly, her hands clasped nervously.

Principal Larissa sighed deeply, leaning back against her chair.

"Girls, regarding this matter... I'm afraid it's not something you can interfere with."

Wednesday said nothing. She simply pulled out a high-backed chair opposite the desk and sat down, her hands folded on her lap, silently staring at the Principal.

She adopted a "I won't leave until you talk" stance for a protracted battle.

Enid glanced at the Principal, then at Wednesday, and also mustered the courage to pull out another chair and sit down, although her posture was far less composed than Wednesday's.

Larissa looked at the two girls before her—different in style but united in purpose—and remained silent for a moment before sighing again, as if conceding.

"Alright," she picked up the bone china teacup on the desk and took a sip of the slightly cool tea, "I'll make a long story short."

"Simply put... when Victor was very young, his parents accidentally... lost him."

Enid gasped sharply.
