Chapter 52 - Ch . 41 Compitetion

Today, I took leave from school because of the upcoming competition. While thinking about what kind of invention could genuinely help society and be produced at a low cost, an idea suddenly struck me.

At exactly 12 PM, I sat in front of Neelam's laptop and began designing a simple machine. The goal was clear: create a machine with parts that could be assembled easily in front of the judges within the limited presentation time.

Hours passed without me noticing.

The sun rose high in the sky, slowly moved westward, and eventually began to set. Time flew by as I focused entirely on the design.

Only one week remained before the competition.

Since the event was being held in Delhi, the capital of India, we had plenty of time for travel. Instead of rushing, we decided to enjoy a road trip. After a long ten-hour journey by car, we finally arrived in Delhi.

Over the next few days, we explored several historical monuments and famous landmarks around the city. After sightseeing, we checked into a hotel, took a relaxing shower, and immediately collapsed onto our beds.

We were literally exhausted from the journey.

At that moment, all we wanted was a good night's sleep.

Just like that, an entire week passed.

During that time, I successfully forged and assembled all the machine's components. With the help of C.M., I had even managed to secure a patent for the machine before the competition.

Today was finally the day.

The competition hall was packed with brilliant minds from across the country. Participants displayed inventions and projects designed to improve society.

Some showcased advanced security systems.

Others presented earthquake detection technologies.

There were innovative drainage systems, dam management projects, and agricultural solutions involving improved seeds and chemicals to boost crop growth.

The level of competition was incredibly high.

Then, I heard my name.

"The next participant is... Vijay!"

The announcer's voice echoed through the hall.

"He will demonstrate how a small machine can make a big difference in the lives of women in society."

Taking a deep breath, I picked up the bag filled with machine parts and walked confidently onto the stage.

Hundreds of eyes turned toward me.

I placed the parts on the table and began assembling the machine while speaking into the microphone.

"Good morning, everyone."

The hall became silent.

"My invention is a low-cost sanitary napkin manufacturing machine designed specifically for rural areas and small communities."

As my hands moved smoothly from one component to another, the machine slowly took shape before the audience's eyes.

I continued my explanation.

"In my previous life, I watched a movie called Pad Man. The story inspired me deeply. Millions of women suffer because affordable sanitary products are unavailable in many regions. This machine aims to solve that problem."

A large screen behind me displayed diagrams and working models.

"The machine works in four simple steps."

The audience watched attentively.

"Step One: De-Fibrillation."

A diagram appeared on the screen.

"Rigid cellulose wood pulp sheets are fed into the machine. A mechanical grinding system breaks them down into a soft, fluffy cotton-like material."

Several judges nodded.

"Step Two: Core Formation."

I picked up a sample and showed it to the audience.

"The fluffy pulp is compressed into molds, creating the absorbent core of the sanitary pad. It is then wrapped with a skin-friendly non-woven fabric."

The audience remained focused.

"Step Three: Pressing and Sealing."

I demonstrated the lever mechanism.

"A simple hand-operated press applies pressure to shape the pad and seal its edges securely, preventing leakage."

One of the judges leaned forward with interest.

"And finally, Step Four: UV Sterilization."

The UV chamber illuminated with a faint blue glow.

"The finished pads are placed inside this chamber where ultraviolet light eliminates harmful bacteria, ensuring complete hygiene before packaging."

I paused for a moment.

"The entire setup requires minimal electricity, low maintenance, and no advanced technical skills. Rural women can operate it themselves, create employment opportunities, and run self-sustaining businesses."

The hall fell completely silent.

Everyone stared at the fully assembled machine.

Then I switched it on.

The machine began operating exactly as planned.

Wood pulp entered one side.

Processed material emerged.

The core was formed.

The press sealed the product.

Finally, the pad passed through the sterilization chamber.

A finished sanitary napkin emerged from the machine.

Live.

In front of everyone.

For a few seconds, nobody said anything.

The judges exchanged looks.

Several participants stared in disbelief.

Then...

Clap.

Clap.

Clap.

The sound started from one corner of the hall.

Within moments, the entire audience rose to their feet.

A thunderous standing ovation filled the auditorium.

The applause seemed endless.

Looking at the faces around me, I could already tell the result.

My instincts were screaming the answer.

I had won.

Hours later, the final announcement confirmed it.

"And the winner of this year's National Innovation Competition is..."

The host paused dramatically.

"Vijay!"

The hall erupted once again.

Cheers echoed throughout the auditorium.

A smile appeared on my face as I stepped forward to receive the trophy.

With a working prototype, a patented design, and a solution capable of helping millions of women, there was never really any doubt.

Just like that...

I won the competition.

This chapter works especially well because the invention solves a real social problem, gives Vijay a believable reason to win, and shows his intelligence through action rather than simply telling readers he is smart.
