Chapter 3 - chapter 5-10

Chapter 5: The First Seed of Rebellion

An imperial tax collector demanded a crippling tithe from the village. Ari used the Hearthearth's accelerated growth to secretly produce extra food, helping Nadeuri meet the demand without starving. The villagers survived, but Ari realized the empire's greed would only grow. She began to see herself as a protector, not just a survivor.

Chapter 6: A Whisper of the Past

Ari saved a wounded noblewoman, Yuna, from imperial soldiers by bringing her into the Hearthearth. Yuna revealed that the Emperor was crushing dissent and spoke of "Witches of the Hearth"—ancient cooks and healers the empire had erased. Yuna told Ari of other refugees seeking a safe place. Ari decided to build a sanctuary, and Yuna left to spread the word.

Chapter 7: The Gathering Storm

Refugees arrived: a former cavalry officer, Jae; a scholar, Minjun; and a farming family. Ari integrated them into Nadeuri. The Hearthearth grew, unlocking new features. Minjun reported that a new Inquisitor, Kael—once a knight of the Saintess's guard—was hunting heretics. Ari recognized the name and knew her past was catching up. She began preparing the village for confrontation.

Chapter 8: The Inquisitor's Shadow

Intelligence revealed Inquisitor Kael was methodically crushing resistance and was heading north. Ari prepared Nadeuri's defenses, trained the militia, and used the Hearthearth to create combat rations and healing supplies. Yuna warned that Kael was obsessed with the dead Saintess. Ari resolved to face him.

Chapter 9: The First Clash

A scouting party of temple knights searched Nadeuri but found nothing; Ari had hidden all evidence of the Hearth. The knights left, warning they would return. Ari revealed the Hearthearth to her inner circle. She sent Jae and a small team to ambush the enemy at Raven's Gap, using traps and terrain to delay them.

---

Chapter 10: The Battle of Raven's Gap

Jae's team ambushed the vanguard at Raven's Gap, killing many and wounding others. Ari, against Jae's protests, went down to heal the wounded soldiers, showing mercy to the enemy. The first engagement was a tactical victory, but Kael's main army remained, and the siege of Nadeuri began.
