Chapter 72 - What is Cata?

Professor Hudenro had multiple guesses on Naph's situation, yet he asked the most obvious one.

"Anaphol, where did you get the lesio from?"

Naph had the answer on the tip of his tongue, but for some reason he unknowingly felt that certain feel he gets when someone gazes upon him. The feeling he received after saying cata for the first time.

And certainly, it was a bit more intense.

Relying on his bounty hunter experience, and many quick lessons from Don Extea, he said, "Can we talk about this later? I want to be able to properly explain it but first I want to know the basics regarding," he considered his next word but Hudenro's nod finalized what he was going to say and he did, "lesio and cata."

The plane of kaleidoscopic space descended and wrapped around Anaphol yet again. Hudenro grabbed a hold of this one too and yanked it off Naph.

Crunching the two planes like a sheet into a ball, Hudenro said, "That is also part of this class's curriculum, and for the moment a high priority."

Hudenro gripped the ball of kaleidoscopic space tightly not letting it escape his fist. The ball in turn vibrated under his grip.

Not giving the ball of space any attention, Hudenro started addressing two topics within one flow. "I have a suspicion on all of you, but," he said this while passing the ball of kaleidoscopic space from one hand to another, "you can raise your hand and correct me at any given moment regarding you." His right hand swept in a half circle, pointing at each student present, "To you, cata is a mysterious form of energy or something along those lines with lesios being the real magic."

None raised a single hand. 'Within expectations,' he concluded.

Naph however, spoke up. "Uh, I don't."

Hudenro passed the ball of kaleidoscopic space back to his main hand, never letting the tight grip on it lessen. He knew what will happen if he did.

Nodding to Naph's interjection, he said, "I wasn't clear enough in my suggestive order. Anaphol, when I said you, any of you," his eyes scanned his audience, "could raise their hands and correct me. By that I meant, you should raise your hands if you wish to say something." Tilting his head a bit left, "Other teachers and mentors will not or probably not give this much detailed suggestive instructions. But let me assure you, most of them will answer you if you politely raise your arm towards the roof when you want to say something or ask something."

Hudenro took a step forward to Naph, the ball pulsed harder under his grip. Why was it pulsing? None of the present beings knew the answer, nor did anyone except Hudenro noticed it.

"And why is that?" Hudenro expected an answer that he read of about the underworld of Tarna's understanding about cata and not what Naph was about to say.

"Because I learned that Cata is a form of existence at an extremely minute level that connects itself to consciousness and thought." Naph was wrapped again in kaleidoscopic space, and yet again Hudenro snatched it off his body even when it had wrapped itself too tightly than the last time.

"Ah!" Professor Hudenro recognized the definition. Smiling he continued, "I believe you learned that on the way to Jhorime? Correct?"

Naph affirmed that assumption.

"That is a formal definition proposed recently in the past year by a Realized Cata Mind protégé of one of my academic," Hudenro considered the correct word, "colleague."

'Nert?'

"He went to Tarna to conduct a related experiment while being on his assigned mission." Looking down at the ball of kaleidoscopic space, he further added, "While that definition has many merits, it has a certain flaw. The definition of existence is non-applicable to an entity that does not show purposeful reaction."

Taking a deep breath, he continued, "Cata does not have purposeful reaction. It produces one when it functions through a lesio." Passing back the ball to his other hand, "Coming back to the question and definition of cata and how I," he pointed at Naph, "will solve your problem within next five minutes or less. For that I need one confirmation, did you make any meaning of the word cata before that meaning was introduced to you?"

Naph nodded. His intent to listen was just as high as was his fight or flight response to the movement of the ball of kaleidoscopic space. His breath had been taken away thrice by now.

"Cata and lesio both have heavy ties to idea as a concept itself. You know about idea as a concept, right class?" Hudenro asked, and he received a loud chorus of yes. Even from Anaphol which was his main priority.

Hudenro then put weight behind his next words by simply pouring his unraveling cata within it. A simple act that does not need lesio to perform but a basis for his future lesio.

"Cata has multiple meanings, but you only see the ones that fit your understanding because they were raised in front of you."

Letting it settle among the students, he watched as he subtly felt a few cata minds feel the unraveling cata.

Naph had some effect but he still knew or unconscious had added a meaning to the simple gibberish he had learnt from Bulwark. Her image. Her dying figure stood atop all of his other thoughts. He wanted to plunge it down deep within, so he chose to ask again.

Raising his arm, Naph asked, "Professor Hudenro, may I ask?"

Hudenro nodded.

"I think I added a different meaning to," his sight fell on the ball of kaleidoscopic space, "that word when I first learned of it."

"You can say it." Holding up the ball, Hudenro confirmed, "I can easily handle hundreds more like this. So, tell me about the meanings you have added to cata." Looking at the rest of the students, "All of you, do consider what other meanings have you added to cata without creating a new one right now and think deeply on them."

Naph considered the three meanings he had gained or attributed to cata, "Cata is non-sense word." Plane of kaleidoscopic space wrapped him, and Hudenro snatched it off him adding that too to the ball. Taking his breath, Naph continued, "It's a magic source that lets you do magic. And the third one I already told you."

Hudenro nodded to Naph's answer, then glanced around his class. Some students understood and wrote down the meanings they have met, others reminisced of the memories wrapped with the meanings.

"Now, all of you, write them down in a piece of paper." Scribbling noise increased just a bit. Naph too wrote some semblance of the script he had learned to read.

'Still as illiterate as ever.' Staring at his handwriting, he wished harder to learn how to write.

"Now, comes the more important part for you Anaphol and for anyone who wants to use the same technique for any other lesio." Hudenro declared.
