Before you dive into Chapter 1, there are a few things you need to understand about how this world works. Read this carefully, and everything that follows will make complete sense.
How It All Began — The Meteorite
Thousands of years ago long before any modern nation existed, long before the Republic of Edenia was built or the Awakeners Police was formed something fell from the sky.
A meteorite.
It was not an ordinary space rock. When it struck the Earth, it released a powerful substance into the atmosphere something that had no name, something that science has studied for centuries without fully understanding. This substance was absorbed into the soil, into the water, into the air that early humans breathed.
And slowly across generations it began to alter the DNA of humanity.
Not all at once. Not in every person. But gradually, quietly, the substance worked its way into the human genetic chain and began producing something that had never existed in human beings before.
And it was called Talents.
The first documented cases appeared in the old era. Abraham carried one. Moses carried traces of one. These early Talent users were considered chosen blessed by forces beyond human understanding. They were not wrong.
The substance the meteorite released was not random.But that story belongs to the pages of the novel itself.
What matters for now is this the meteorite is why Talents exist. It is the origin of everything that follows.
What Is A Talent?
A Talent is a supernatural ability that exists within a human being's body and can be drawn out and used in the physical world.
Talents come in many forms. Some allow their users to control elements like fire, water, wind or ice. Some grant extraordinary physical abilities like speed or strength beyond human limits. Some produce effects that have no natural equivalent at all abilities so unique they resist easy description.
Every Talent is different. No two are exactly the same even when they belong to the same category.
Talents awaken in three ways
Through birth. Some people are born with their Talent already beginning to develop inside them. As they grow, the Talent grows with them and eventually manifests naturally.
Through emotion. Extreme emotional experiences grief, rage, fear, love pushed to its absolute limit can trigger a Talent that has been dormant inside a person who never knew they carried one. Emotional awakening produces the most powerful initial manifestations. It is also the most dangerous and the hardest to control.
Through transfer. In rare cases, an existing Talent user can pass their ability or a version of it to another person. This is uncommon and not fully understood.
Power in this world is never neutral. In the right hands, it saves lives. In the wrong hands, it ends them.
The Talent Classification System
Not all Talents are equal. The Awakeners Police the organisation responsible for monitoring and managing Talent users across the Republic of Edenia classifies every known Talent into one of four categories.
Common Talents are the most frequently occurring. Elemental abilities, physical enhancements and sensory abilities make up the majority of this category. Most Awakened humans carry a Common Talent.
Rare Talents appear far less frequently. They tend to be more powerful and more complex than Common Talents and are not fully understood even by the Awakeners Police. They are tracked carefully.
Unclassified Talents have appeared only once or twice in all of recorded history. The Awakeners Police documents them but cannot fully explain them.
Divine Class is a category that the Awakeners Police officially refuses to acknowledge. It was removed from the public classification system long ago for political reasons. But in the oldest and most restricted records of the organisation, it is documented a level of Talent that exists entirely above every other classification.
Divine Class Talents are not awakened through normal means. They are granted. Chosen. Passed down not through simple genetics but through something cosmic something that operates on a scale human institutions were not built to understand.
The ancient records describe four known Divine Class Talents.
A fifth is referenced.
*The Talent Pot— How Power Works*
Every Awakened human has what is known as a Talent Pot.
Think of it like a tank filled with water. The tank contains the full potential of your Talent everything it is capable of producing at its absolute maximum. When you use your Talent, you are drawing water from that tank.
Every person begins with access to five percent of their Talent Pot. Five percent is the starting point the amount the body naturally makes available before any training or development has occurred.
Five percent sounds small.
It is not.
Some Five percent of a powerful Talent is enough to change the outcome of a battle, protect a city or in the wrong circumstances level one if done right .
The further a Talent user trains and develops, the more of their pot becomes accessible. The ceiling is one hundred percent the full output of the Talent's true power. Nobody reaches one hundred percent quickly. Some people never reach it in their lifetime.
Pushing past what the body is used to accessing comes with a physical cost until mastery . Drawing more than your current threshold produces pain a deep ache in the chest, physical exhaustion, sometimes bleeding. The body is not built to handle the full output of a Talent without preparation.
Training is how you prepare it.
Divine Class Talent Pots have never been measured. No Divine Class user in recorded history has ever been documented reaching the limit of their pot.Whether a limit exists at all is one of the oldest unanswered questions in the classified records.
Awakened Humans — Who They Are?
An Awakened human is any person whose Talent has manifested and become accessible to them.
Once a Talent awakens, the person carrying it is registered with the Awakeners Police the governing body responsible for all Talent-related matters in the Republic of Edenia. Registration is mandatory. Unregistered Awakened humans are classified as rogue and treated accordingly.
Awakened humans make up approximately one third of the total human population of the Republic of Edenia. They exist in every walk of life ordinary citizens, criminals, officers of the law, military personnel.
Having a Talent does not automatically make someone powerful or heroic or dangerous.What matters is what they do with it.Not everyone agrees with how that power should be controlled.
The Awakeners Police employs Awakened humans across all ranks of its military structure. The most powerful among them hold the highest ranks and are responsible for handling threats that ordinary military units cannot address.
Unawakened Humans — Who They Are?
An Unawakened human is any person who has not manifested a Talent.
This is the majority of humanity. Most people live their entire lives without a Talent awakening inside them. This does not make them powerless it makes them ordinary in a world that contains the extraordinary.
However, within the Awakeners Police, a specific group of Unawakened humans have refused to accept ordinariness as a limitation.
They train.Harder than almost any Awakened human bothers to train because they do not have the option of raw supernatural power compensating for gaps in their capability. They study Talent mechanics, combat systems, weapons and physical conditioning until their bodies operate at levels that blur the line between what is natural and what should not be possible.
These trained Unawakened fighters develop their own system of abilities called Skills.
Skills are not Talents they cannot be awakened or transferred. They are earned entirely through sustained extreme training. They represent the absolute upper limit of what a human body and mind can develop without supernatural assistance.
The most advanced Unawakened Skills can match and in specific circumstances exceed the output of standard Talent users.
The gap between an Awakened and an Unawakened fighter is real.But in the hands of someone who has spent their life closing that gap, it is not always as wide as it looks.
The Republic of Edenia — Where This Story Takes Place
The Republic of Edenia is a unified nation built from the ashes of the First Talent War a global conflict between Talent users that brought the world to the edge of collapse.
When the war ended, the surviving nations came together and built something new.One nation. One government. One organisation responsible for ensuring the kind of destruction the First Talent War produced could never happen again.
That organisation is the Awakeners Police.
One of The capital of the Republic of Edenia is the Republic City of Eden the second largest and most significant city in the unified nation. Every major institution is headquartered here. Every significant event in the story happens here or begins here.
The Awakeners Police operates through a military rank structure from Recruit at the entry level through Officer, Senior Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, high Commander, Deputy Chief and Chief of Police holding supreme authority over the entire organisation.
The Awakeners Police also runs an Academy a training institution where newly Awakened Talent users are assessed, trained and prepared for service. The Academy has three divisions based on Talent type, with the third division Anomaly reserved for Talents that don't fit standard classification.
