Chapter 264 - Chapter 264: The Last Observer

Silence.

The words of the Watcher echoed through every layer of existence.

**"Final Protocol authorized."**

**"The Last Observer... awakens."**

The sea of possibilities froze.

Every newborn star lost its motion.

Even time itself seemed reluctant to advance.

Beyond the shattered heavens...

Something moved.

At first, Kael believed it was another pair of silver eyes.

Then he realized how wrong he was.

The silver eyes belonged to the Watcher.

This...

Was the being those eyes served.

It was impossible to determine its shape.

Each time Kael tried to focus on it, reality contradicted itself.

One moment it resembled an endless ocean.

The next, a mountain larger than worlds.

Then an old man sitting quietly beneath a dying tree.

Then nothing at all.

It was as though existence refused to describe it.

The Keeper slowly stepped in front of Kael.

His usually calm expression had become grim.

"...Don't look at it for too long."

Kael immediately lowered his gaze.

"Why?"

"The mind was never meant to understand something that exists outside the story of creation."

Orion remained silent.

His eyes never left the immense silhouette.

For the first time...

The First Gardener looked... old.

Not in body.

In spirit.

As though he were facing a memory he had hoped would never return.

The silhouette finally stopped moving.

No voice emerged.

No overwhelming aura erupted.

Yet every star instinctively dimmed.

Even hope itself seemed quieter.

Then...

One tiny star disappeared.

Not erased.

It simply surrendered its light.

The Last Observer had not touched it.

Its mere presence had convinced the star there was no reason to shine.

Kael's heart tightened.

"What..."

"...is it?"

Orion answered softly.

"It is not a king."

"Not a god."

"Not even the creator."

He took a slow breath.

"It is the first witness."

Kael frowned.

"The first... witness?"

The Keeper nodded.

"Before there were civilizations..."

"Before the World Tree..."

"Before even the first memory..."

"There was observation."

"The Last Observer existed to witness reality exactly as it was."

Kael looked upward once more.

"It never interfered?"

"No."

"Then why is it here now?"

Orion's expression grew solemn.

"Because the Fifth Lock changed something that should never have changed."

Kael remembered the countless newborn stars.

The fourth path.

The impossible future.

"I created new possibilities..."

Orion nodded.

"And to the Last Observer..."

"...that means reality has become uncertain."

The Watcher's countless eyes brightened.

**"Deviation exceeds acceptable limits."**

**"Restoration required."**

The Keeper clenched his fists.

"It wants certainty."

Kael slowly understood.

The Watcher erased memories because memories produced unpredictable choices.

The Last Observer...

Desired something even greater.

A universe where nothing unexpected could ever happen.

No miracles.

No tragedies.

No hope.

No despair.

Only certainty.

The silhouette slowly lifted one enormous hand.

Its movement was unbearably slow.

Yet with each passing second...

Entire constellations froze.

Stars stopped creating possibilities.

Future after future crystallized into fixed outcomes.

Kael reached toward one nearby star.

Only moments ago it had shown hundreds of futures.

Now...

Only one remained.

His expression hardened.

"It isn't erasing possibilities."

The Keeper nodded.

"It's locking them."

The Last Observer had no need to destroy hope.

It merely removed every alternative.

A single future.

Forever.

The sea of possibilities cried without sound.

Millions of stars struggled against invisible chains.

Some resisted.

Most surrendered.

Kael gripped the Gardener's Key.

Five branches now bloomed upon it.

The newest branch trembled violently.

As though it feared what stood before it.

The Watcher spoke again.

**"Gardener."**

Kael looked up.

**"Observe."**

Suddenly...

A vision unfolded before him.

He stood within a peaceful village.

Children played happily beneath clear blue skies.

Families laughed together.

No monsters.

No wars.

No hunger.

Perfect peace.

Then everything stopped.

A child froze mid-laugh.

A bird remained suspended in the air.

Leaves no longer fell.

The river ceased flowing.

Nothing died.

Nothing aged.

Nothing changed.

The village became...

A perfect painting.

Beautiful.

Eternal.

Dead.

The vision vanished.

Kael inhaled sharply.

"...That's its perfect world."

Orion nodded.

"Nothing can suffer..."

"...if nothing is allowed to become anything else."

The Last Observer finally spoke.

Unlike the Watcher...

Its voice did not echo.

It simply existed.

Every soul heard it in their own language.

**"Change creates loss."**

**"Stillness preserves all."**

Kael closed his eyes.

He remembered his grandfather carving wood.

Aren sharing bread.

Lyra studying through sleepless nights.

Selene writing forgotten names.

Old Rowan laughing beneath the World Tree.

Eli protecting ordinary lives.

None of those moments had remained unchanged.

They had become precious...

Because they ended.

He slowly opened his eyes.

"You're wrong."

The sea of possibilities trembled.

For the first time...

The Last Observer looked directly at him.

No anger.

No curiosity.

Only absolute certainty.

**"Explain."**

Kael smiled sadly.

"If a flower never withers..."

"...how do you know spring has arrived?"

Silence.

"If a child never grows..."

"...can they still dream?"

The stars flickered.

"If no one can make another choice..."

"...can anyone truly live?"

The Last Observer did not answer.

It simply watched.

The Gardener's Key suddenly burst into brilliant light.

Its five branches intertwined.

From their center...

A tiny green bud appeared.

Not the Sixth Branch.

A flower.

Small.

Fragile.

Its petals had not yet opened.

Orion's eyes widened.

The Keeper whispered in disbelief.

"...Impossible."

Kael looked down.

"What is it?"

Orion smiled for the first time since the Last Observer had appeared.

"It isn't a weapon."

"It isn't power."

"It is the first flower to bloom from possibility itself."

The tiny bud swayed gently despite the frozen universe.

One fragile blossom...

Defying absolute certainty.

The Last Observer stared at it.

For the first time since the beginning of existence...

The First Witness encountered something it had never observed before.

Not a new future.

Not a new memory.

A future...

That could not be calculated.

And somewhere deep within the endless silence...

A single crack appeared.

Not in the heavens.

Not in the Fifth Lock.

But within the perfect certainty of the Last Observer itself.
