Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: The Hidden Truth

Aanya couldn't sleep. Her mind was tangled with questions she didn't dare ask out loud. Who had attacked her father? Why had the city turned against her family overnight? And most importantly… why did Rey seem to know more than he was letting on?

She slipped quietly from her room, following the faint glow of the study where Rey often spent his nights. Papers, files, and old ledgers were spread across the large oak desk. Her fingers traced one of the open documents, revealing a hidden note with her father's handwriting.

"The ones you trust may be your undoing. Look where no one dares."

Her heart raced. Someone wanted her to find this clue. And Rey… he was watching her.

"I see you're curious," he said softly, stepping from the shadows. His eyes held both warning and something else—something she couldn't name.

"I… I need answers," she said, her voice trembling. "About my father… about everything."

Rey moved closer, stopping just short of touching her. "Answers come with danger," he warned. "Are you ready for that?"

Before she could respond, a loud crash echoed from the balcony—someone had broken in again. Rey grabbed her arm and pulled her to the ground just as a gunshot shattered the air.

They lay in the shadows, hearts pounding. Rey whispered fiercely, "I told you… survival isn't about trust. It's about being prepared."

Aanya realized, with a cold certainty, that her life had changed forever. She wasn't just fighting for her family's secrets anymore—she was fighting for her life. And for the first time, she wondered… could she also be fighting for something else?
