Chapter 2 - They Shouldn't Have Touched Her

A few days passed in the blink of an eye, and during this time, Kayla had recovered and was able to walk.

As such, they returned back home. Their home was a cozy two-bedroom apartment that was decorated, but not too lavishly.

Upon returning home, the joyful atmosphere was palpable.

"We finally have an addition to our home." Kayla smiled as she entered the house with the child cradled in her arms.

Ciara was asleep after being fed, so she briskly went to lay her down to sleep, leaving Amon to bring in the remaining things they'd bought.

Outside, Amon glanced around briefly, then muttered in his heart. 'Sign in.'

Instantly, the system flashed and a new line of words appeared in his line of sight.

[congratulations on signing in, you have received a new talent: danger sense.]

Glancing at the talent, a faint smile appeared at the corner of Amon's lips.

This was his third sign in, and he couldn't deny every reward he'd received had been helpful so far. The previous day, he received a second sword skill.

Although incomparable to the divine-rank sword technique, it was still helpful. And the rewards from signing in were getting richer as time passed.

In a happy mood, Amon quickly offloaded his car before heading back inside.

After crosschecking everything, he lay down to sleep.

Over the past three days, with the birth of their daughter, he and his wife had been so busy, so it was understandable that she quickly drifted off to sleep.

Moments after lying down, Amon also drifted off to sleep.

The night was quiet, save for the occasional sounds of crickets and hoots.

Everything seemed peaceful on the surface, however, in the room of the baby, Ciara, a massive shadow loomed…

The shadow remained static for a few seconds before it started moving, heading towards her.

Everywhere seemed calm for a few seconds when suddenly… Amon's eyes snapped open.

His eyes flickered with a dreadful killing intent as his instincts flared.

This was the danger sense alerting him of the incoming crisis.

Instantly, the winter frost blade appeared in his hand as he rushed out of the room to the next.

The door swung open with a bang.

His pupils constricted drastically as he noticed his daughter sleeping peacefully, cradled in the arms of the looming shadow.

"Who are you?" Amon asked cautiously as he closed in on the looming shadow.

The shadow paused, staring at Amon for a moment before racing towards the window.

"Fuck!" Amon let out a curse and instinctively used a sword technique.

The cold netherworld sword technique was divided into 9 unique sword arts.

Using the first and simplest sword art, Amon instantly attacked.

'Unholy Death sword art.'

Slashing forward, a sword light appeared briefly at the tip of his blade before hurling in the direction of the shadow.

A muffled groan escaped from the shadow before it was sent crashing towards the window.

Bang!

Smoothly, Amon closed the distance and caught the falling Ciara.

Meanwhile, the shadow coalesced, materialising into the form of a person.

The moment the silhouette took form, Amon gasped in surprise, noticing the woman was his neighbor who had packed in six months ago.

"You…" Amon was furious and dumbfounded.

With blood pooling at the corner of her lips, the woman raised her gaze in the direction of Amon and grinned.

"You… awakener…" her eyes were filled with shock.

Who would have expected that the abandoned son of the noble family would secretly awaken?

Amon didn't give her a second chance to speak.

His sword moved with deathly precision and pierced through her head.

A dull and lifeless expression appeared in the eyes of the woman as she lost her breath.

Frowning slightly, Amon stared at the corpse, feeling a little irritation from killing someone for the first time.

Waaaa… Waaa… Waaaa

The cry of the little infant in his arms brought him back to reality.

Pushing his discomfort aside, Amon gently nudged her and cooed.

"There… there… your dad is here to protect you from everything. Don't worry, my little princess."

The little girl cried briefly before her cries lessened, as though she'd been comforted by Amon's words.

"What's going on?" Kayla's worried voice drifted from outside the room, followed by footsteps.

Smoothly, Amon dropped the sword and opened the door before she could enter, smiling calmly.

"It's nothing. I came to check up on her when she started crying…" Amon explained.

Not wanting to trouble his wife with the threat of their neighbor, Amon smoothly lied.

Although he felt a pang of regret for lying to her, he didn't want her mind to be burdened by thoughts of their daughter's safety.

Collecting the little infant, Kayla cooed gently, "Are you hungry, little one?" She gently pinched the cheek of the little girl and smiled.

"Head back to the room, I'll come and meet you shortly," Amon said with a calm smile.

"Okay," Kayla gave Amon a puzzled look but still nodded nonetheless before heading back with Ciara.

Standing by the door, Amon watched her depart for a few moments before letting out a sigh.

Walking back into the room, his eyes landed on the corpse and his expression grew cold once more.

He deliberated for a few moments before pulling the corpse through the window and tossing it out.

Then, he proceeded to clean up the blood in the room with some rags he found outside.

After he had perfectly cleaned the room, he went back outside through the window and dragged the corpse through the alleyways.

Thankfully, the neighborhood was usually quiet around nighttime, so no one noticed his suspicious movements.

After dragging the body a few tens of metres away from his home, Amon went back home, then returned some time later with a gallon of fuel and a lighter.

Pouring it on the corpse, he set the body on fire without hesitation.

Instantly, a wave of heat, along with a mix of orange and red flames, filled Amon's vision.

The fire reflecting in Amon's pupils seemed to reveal the terrifying storm brewing within his mind as he watched the flames burn through the corpse fiercely, the stench of burnt flesh filling the surroundings.
