Chapter 8 - chapter 7 Beren

Beren had stormed into her room, slammed the door, and grabbed a pillow to scream into, and flopped onto her bed and screamed. She had screeched to where her throat was on fire, until she could only speak in a barely audible tone.

Once she was sure that she had no voice left she stopped; thinking about why Rose would ever trust someone from the Capitol. Rose is too nice for her own good, Beren thought.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock at her door. "Beren it is time for dinner; come eat." said a high pitched, chipper voice. Beren knew it was Caroleene. Beren groaned loudly. Or, at least she tried to. It made her sound like a frog singing with bad vocals.

"I'm coming, just give me a minute." Beren responded in a half audible voice. Just how she wanted it to be. Now it would give her an excuse not to talk to anyone for the rest of the night, and hopefully tomorrow as well.

Beren reluctantly walked out to where everyone else was sitting waiting for her. She sat down, already regretting coming out of her room. Beren picked up something that looked like pork, and decided to try it. She cut a piece and brought it to her mouth. Nope. She spat it out immediately and drank her water to try to get rid of the horrible flavor. "What is this?" Beren hoarsely demanded.

"Oh that? That's the chopped up horse tongue." Katniss responded. "Don't eat too much of it. It'll give you an aching stomach.."

Beren's stomach was already feeling queasy from the horrible tasting thing they called food. She jumped from the table and sprinted to her room. She made it just in time. She leaned over the toilet, holding her hair back and vomited the disgusting horse tongue.

After she was sure all the tongue was forever out of her body, she stood up quickly, making her feel light headed. She hobbled over to her bed and lay there, curled up on her side, tucked into a little ball. She groaned. Her stomach was still on fire. She focused on breathing. In…Out…In…Out…

She had felt horrible about all that had happened today, with the girl, her chat with the president, and Rose. Especially with Rose.

Rose is too innocent for her own good. Beren needed to protect her. Beren made up her mind to sneak into Rose's room when her 'friend" was there.

She groaned awake to the irritating ring of her alarm. She didn't remember falling asleep, but however much annoying the stupid noise was, she was glad she set the alarm.

This is it. She thought, sitting up and stretching. She raised her arms high up into the air reaching for the top of the ceiling, stretching her back as well.

Then she stood up, slipped on her sweater and opened the door, making sure to turn the knob as slowly and quietly as she could.

Beren knew that right now Rose would probably be in the shower. Ever since they were young, Beren knew that Rose would never miss her showers even if it meant she would be late. So it was the perfect time for Beren to sneak in.

The only problem would be getting there. Beren knew that the guards always watch the tribute's rooms at night, and they probably would watch Beren and Rose more closely given their actions that day.

She heard a sound as she was moving down the long and twisted hallway. It sounded like the Ray guard from Rose's room, but she couldn't risk getting caught just to find out.

She dashed behind a giant bush in the middle of the wall. The plant stabbed her with its thorns, but she was glad that it was there to conceal her.

She heard the voice getting closer and closer. It indeed was Ray from Rose's room, then she heard another one. It sounded like the other older guard.

"Make sure she falls for it." she heard the older one say, "She has to fall for it, after what she did to the announcer she must fail the Hunger Games."

"I know. You told me a thousand times, I will make sure to get her to believe it." Ray said coolly.

Then she heard the voices receding. She waited until she was sure the guards were gone to get out of the bush.

Beren needed to tell Rose immediately. She needed to keep her safe. Even if Beren was mad at her, she still cared for her, she still loved her.

She jumped up, whipped the dust off her pants and sprinted towards Rose's room, hoping it wasn't too late. Hoping, praying that Rose would believe her.

Beren reached the end of the corridor, and spotted Rose's room. She held her hand up to quietly knock when it opened and slammed into her face.

"Rose!" Beren shouted. She realized that she had just shouted loud enough for the guards to hear her. She cursed under her breath and shoved her way into Rose's room.
