Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 11 Closing Chapters

After five months, it was finally our graduation. At last, we finished the school year. I felt a mix of happiness and sadness—happy because we finished the year, but a little sad too because I might not be with my friends as much anymore. We might not be classmates in the next school year.

After graduation, while holding my diploma and standing in line for pictures, I felt the excitement around me. Many students were taking pictures with their families and friends. I noticed our classmates laughing while taking photos. I smiled.

I waited for the chance to take pictures with my friends. We helped each other fix our clothes and make sure our poses looked nice. There were a few jokes and laughter while taking the photos, and it reminded me of the simple moments in school that made us happy before.

After we finished taking pictures, we walked home with my friends and our parents. On the way, we didn't stop talking. We shared our vacation plans, talked about how we would face the next year, and remembered school memories that we would never forget.

While holding my bag, I thought about Sevi. I decided to text him.

"Hi, congrats!" I typed, feeling nervous but excited to see if he would reply.

A few minutes passed before he answered.

"Thanks! Congrats to you too!"

I smiled. Even a simple message made me feel a small connection with him. It felt like even though we hadn't talked properly for a long time, there was still a way to reach out to each other.

Now, we talked a little longer than usual, like before when I texted, he replied right away. But after a while, our conversation stopped again because he said he had a family event.

I sat on the sofa while looking at the pictures from graduation. I smiled at every photo—me, Amari, Ophelia, and the rest of our friends. I felt the happiness and the bond we shared that didn't seem to fade, even though the school year was over.

As I looked at the photos, I realized that even though things had changed, and even though I didn't talk to Sevi as often, I still had someone I could talk to and share my problems.

I thought about all the moments we had shared, the late-night chats, the small jokes, and even the silly dares I had dared him to do. Those memories still made me smile, and I knew that even if our paths had changed, the friendship we had built would stay with me.

I put my phone down for a moment and took a deep breath. Life was moving forward, and so were we. I realized that growing up didn't mean losing everything we loved—it meant learning to keep the good memories close while making space for new ones.

With a soft smile, I whispered to myself, "Even if things aren't the same, it's still okay. I still have people who care, and that's enough for now."

And with that thought, I felt a little lighter, a little more hopeful, and ready to face whatever came next.
