Kaelen's POV
Victor's fingers remained locked on my shirt for several heartbeats before he slowly released his grip and stepped back to meet my gaze.
Moisture gathered in his eyes.
"I've been waiting years for this moment," he said, his voice hoarse. "The waiting was torture. But I forced myself to survive because I knew... I hoped that someday I'd have the chance for vengeance. I pictured something more brutal. But the court will serve the same purpose. I've dreamed for years of standing before that assembly and revealing his true nature."
I gave him a nod.
"Then your opportunity has arrived."
"Now," he insisted. "I need to testify immediately. He has supporters. I'm certain of it, and my being here puts them at risk."
I cast a glance at the window. Daylight still filtered through. The recess hadn't expired yet. But we were cutting it close.
