Lyra's POV
I walked out of the infirmary with Silas and Celeste following close behind. The corridor stretched before us in complete silence. My thoughts churned endlessly.
A guard positioned himself near the staircase. His stance was military-straight and professional. I had seen him on patrol rounds before.
"Pardon me," I called out.
He pivoted and offered a respectful nod. "Yes, my lady?"
"Where might I find Kaelen?"
"The Alpha is currently in his study, my lady."
"I appreciate it."
He nodded once more as I walked past him toward the western corridor. Silas and Celeste peeled away at some point during our journey. Their footsteps echoed down an alternate passage before fading completely. They undoubtedly had their own matters to handle.
The study occupied the corridor's end. The door remained shut, yet muffled voices drifted through the barrier. The tones were hushed and pressing. I decreased my speed and positioned myself just beyond the threshold.
