Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 " BIRTH OF A PREDATOR "

The forest was alive again.

But not the way it should be.

Something moved through the shadows—fast, silent, unseen.

It didn't understand where it was.

It didn't understand what it was.

But it understood one thing.

Hunger.

The creature moved on all fours at first, its limbs awkward, unbalanced. Each step was uncertain… until it wasn't.

It adjusted.

Shifted.

Learned.

Within minutes, it stood upright.

Not perfectly.

But effectively.

Its red eyes scanned the darkness, absorbing everything. The shapes of trees. The distance between them. The way shadows bent and stretched under faint moonlight.

Unformation.

Everything was information.

A sound.

Its head snapped to the left.

A small creature—a forest rodent—scrambled across the roots, unaware.

The goblin tilted its head.

Watching.

Calculating.

Then ....

It moved.

A blur.

Too fast.

Its claw pierced the rodent before it could react.

A clean kill.

The goblin froze.

Not out of hesitation.

Out of focus.

Its gaze dropped to the body in its hand.

Warm.

Soft.

Fragile.

It squeezed.

Bones cracked.

The sound echoed softly.

The goblin's eyes flickered.

Something inside it responded.

Not emotion.

Not satisfaction.

Understanding.

It brought the creature closer.

Observed.

Then ....

It bit.

The flesh tore easily.

Warm liquid filled its mouth.

And in that instant—

Something changed.

The world sharpened.

The darkness became clearer.

The air… louder.

The goblin's body stiffened.

Vein Energy surged through it violently, reacting to the act.

Not just feeding.

Assimilation.

The creature's muscles tightened, fibers shifting, refining.

Its posture straightened further.

Balance improved.

Grip strengthened.

All from a single bite.

The goblin paused.

Processing.

Then.....

It continued eating.

Faster this time.

More efficiently.

Every movement optimized.

Every action refined.

By the time it finished, nothing remained but fragments.

The goblin stood still.

Silent.

Its body subtly different now.

Stronger.

Sharper.

More… complete.

A sound echoed in the distance.

Voices.

Human.

The goblin turned.

Eyes glowing faintly.

Listening.

Kaizen moved like a shadow.

Fast.

Controlled.

Relentless.

He hadn't left the forest.

He couldn't.

Not after what he had seen.

"That thing…"

His thoughts were sharp, focused.

Analyzing.

Breaking down every movement.

Every reaction.

It learned.

That was the problem.

Not its strength.

Not its speed.

Its mind.

From the moment it was born, it was observing.

Adapting.

Becoming something else entirely.

Kaizen stopped on a high branch, overlooking a narrow path.

Three figures approached.

Vein Walkers.

Low-tier, judging by their movement.

Careless.

Unaware.

Perfect targets.

kaizen's eyes narrowed.

If the creature was still here…

It would come.

Because something like that—

Wouldn't ignore prey.

The goblin watched from the dark.

Hidden.

Still.

It had never seen beings like these before.

Tall.

Structured.

Complex.

Their movements were different.

Purposeful.

Not like animals.

Not simple.

Interesting.

Its head tilted slightly.

Observing the rhythm of their steps.

The way they spoke.

The fluctuations of energy within their bodies.

Vein Energy.

It could see it now.

Not clearly.

But enough.

Threads of power running beneath their skin.

Flowing.

Controlled.

Different from its own chaotic energy.

Better.

The goblin's eyes sharpened.

It wanted that.

" Oi, you feel that?"

One of the Vein Walkers slowed, glancing around.

"Feel what?"

"Like… we're being watched."

The second laughed.

"You're paranoid."

The third remained silent.

His hand rested on his blade.

"...No," he said quietly. "He's right."

The air shifted.

Subtle.

But enough.

Kaizen's gaze sharpened from above.

It's here.

The goblin moved.

Not recklessly.

Not blindly.

It had learned.

Speed alone wasn't enough.

Timing mattered.

Position mattered.

It circled them first.

Silent.

Studying.

Choosing.

The weakest.

The slowest.

The one who reacted last.

Target identified.

It struck.

A blur of green and shadow.

The first Vein Walker didn't even scream.

A claw pierced his throat, silencing him instantly.

Blood sprayed.

The body dropped.

The other two reacted instantly.

"Enemy!"

They drew their weapons, Vein Energy flaring.

Too slow.

The goblin was already moving again.

Faster than before.

Stronger than before.

It dodged a blade by inches, twisting unnaturally mid-air.

Adaptation.

It learned from Kaizen.

The second strike came from behind.

The goblin ducked.

Not instinct.

Memory.

The third Vein Walker engaged, his movements sharper, more controlled.

He was better.

More experienced.

A real threat.

Good.

The goblin needed that.

Their clash was brief—but violent.

Steel met claw.

Energy surged.

The goblin took a hit.

A deep cut across its side.

It staggered.

But didn't fall.

It looked at the wound.

Watched it.

Felt it.

Then.....

It smiled.

The Vein Walker froze.

"…What the hell are you?"

The wound shifted.

Muscles tightened.

Fibers adapted.

The goblin stepped forward.

Faster.

Stronger.

Different.

This time—

It attacked without hesitation.

The Vein Walker tried to defend.

Too late.

The goblin's claw tore through his guard—

And his chest.

Silence fell.

Only one remained.

The second Vein Walker.

Frozen.

Terrified.

The goblin turned slowly toward him.

Blood dripping from its claws.

Eyes glowing brighter than before.

It took a step forward.

The man stumbled back.

"N-No… stay back…"

The goblin didn't stop.

Didn't rush.

Didn't hesitate.

It walked.

Slowly.

Learning.

Understanding.

Dominating.

The man screamed and ran.

The goblin watched him go.

For a moment—

It didn't move.

Then .....

It vanished.

Kaizen dropped from the tree.

Too late.

Again.

Three bodies.

Clean.

Efficient.

Evolving.

His jaw tightened.

"This thing…"

He examined the wounds.

Precise.

Improving.

Each kill cleaner than the last.

Faster.

More effective.

It was learning from combat.

From pain.

From killing.

Kaizen stood slowly.

This was no longer containment.

This was a hunt.

And he ....

Was already behind.

Far from the clearing…

The goblin stood over the final body.

Breathing slowly.

Calm.

Controlled.

It looked down at its prey.

Then at its own hands.

Covered in blood.

It understood now.

Not everything.

But enough.

Strength came from taking.

From adapting.

From becoming.

It knelt.

And began to feed.

The forest watched.

Silent.

As something new walked within it.

Not beast.

Not man.

Something else.

Something growing.

Something learning.

Something that—

Would not stop.

And after it had finished its last prey… the Nigerian goblin raised itself.

It could not be ignited by a subsequent light.

Then—

For the first time…

it spoke.

The goblin lifted its head slowly, blood still dripping from its chin.

Its eyes—no longer merely red, but deeper now, denser—flickered with something newly formed. Awareness. Not instinct. Not hunger.

Understanding.

It inhaled.

The air entered its lungs differently than before. Richer.

Layered. Each breath carried traces of life—distant footsteps, faint heartbeats, the lingering warmth of recent prey. It could sense them now. Not see… but feel.

Its fingers flexed.

Muscles responded with precision that had not existed moments ago. Every movement felt… earned. Built. Refined through violence and consumption.

The goblin rose to its feet.

No longer unsteady.

No longer hesitant.

It stood upright—balanced, grounded, certain.

A faint crack echoed in the distance.

The goblin's head turned.

Instantly.

Its gaze locked onto a direction beyond the trees.

Someone was approaching.

No—multiple.

And faster than before.

Stronger presences.

The Vein energy in the air shifted subtly, reacting to their movement.

The goblin's pupils narrowed as invisible threads became clearer in its perception. Streams of power.

Pulsing.

Alive.

It could almost see them.

"…So you're here."

A voice.

Calm.

Measured.

Carried by the wind.

The goblin did not move.

Its body tensed—but not in fear.

In recognition.

Another presence had entered the forest.

One unlike the others.

Above, the branches rustled softly.

Kaizen stepped forward into view, descending from the darkness with controlled precision. His eyes were locked onto the goblin....not with surprise, not with doubt.

With certainty.

"You're evolving faster than expected," he said quietly.

The goblin tilted its head slightly.

Studying him.

This one… was different.

Stronger.

Sharpened in the same way… but more refined. Less chaotic.

More complete.

A comparison formed—subtle, instinctive.

And then.....

The goblin smiled.

Not wide.

Not exaggerated.

Just enough.

Kaizen's expression didn't change.

But his hand slowly moved toward his blade.

"…Good," he murmured. "Then I won't have to hold back."

The forest fell silent.

The wind stopped.

Even the shadows seemed to pause.

Two predators stood face to face.

One evolving.

One already perfected.

And in that moment—

The goblin's voice, rough and broken, echoed for the first time.
