Chapter 8 - A little more time

Evening.

The café slowly emptied.

But they were still there.

Sitting.

Quiet now.

Jay traced the edge of her glass.

Keifer watched her.

Thinking.

"So…"

Jay looked up.

"So…"

A small pause.

Both unsure.

Keifer leaned back.

"They're going to ask."

Jay nodded.

"I know."

"Immediately."

Keifer sighed.

"They won't wait."

Jay gave a small laugh.

"They never do."

Silence again.

But not heavy.

Just… thoughtful.

Keifer spoke softly.

"What are you thinking?"

Jay looked at him.

Honestly.

"I don't know."

"That's the problem."

Keifer nodded slowly.

"Same."

Jay smiled faintly.

"At least we're confused together."

Keifer smiled back.

"Team confusion."

Jay chuckled.

Then her smile faded a little.

"I don't want to say no."

Keifer's eyes shifted.

He didn't interrupt.

Jay continued.

"But I'm not ready to say yes either."

Keifer exhaled softly.

"That makes two of us."

A pause.

Gentle.

Jay leaned forward slightly.

"What if…"

Keifer looked at her.

"What if?"

Jay hesitated.

Then said it.

"We ask for time?"

Keifer thought for a second.

Then nodded.

"Time sounds safe."

Jay smiled a little.

"Right?"

"No pressure."

"No rush."

Keifer added softly.

"Just… us figuring it out."

Jay looked at him.

That word stayed.

"Us."

She didn't question it.

Didn't deny it.

Just… accepted it.

A small smile appeared.

"Okay."

Keifer straightened.

"Then it's decided."

Jay nodded.

"We ask for time."

Keifer raised his hand.

"For agreement."

Jay looked at it.

Then placed hers against his.

A soft clap.

A silent promise.

They both stood up.

Walking out together.

Slow steps.

Unhurried.

Jay spoke suddenly.

"They're going to overreact."

Keifer laughed.

"Definitely."

Jay smiled.

"Especially my mom."

Keifer smirked.

"My dad will act calm…"

"…and then question everything."

Jay laughed softly.

"They're the same."

Keifer nodded.

"They are."

They reached outside.

The sky turning dark.

Lights glowing.

A soft breeze passing.

Jay looked at him.

"Nervous?"

Keifer looked back.

"A little."

"You?"

Jay smiled faintly.

"A little more."

Keifer chuckled.

"Don't worry."

Jay raised a brow.

"Why?"

Keifer shrugged.

"We survived the meeting."

"We'll survive them too."

Jay laughed.

"Fair enough."

They stood there.

For a moment.

Neither leaving.

Neither wanting to.

Then Jay stepped back.

"I should go."

Keifer nodded.

"Yeah."

Another pause.

Soft.

Unspoken.

Jay turned.

Then stopped.

Turned back again.

"Keifer…"

"Hmm?"

She smiled gently.

"I'm glad… it was you."

Keifer's expression softened.

"Me too."

Jay nodded.

Then finally walked away.

Keifer watched her go.

A small smile staying.

Things were still uncertain.

Still unclear.

But one thing was sure…

They didn't want to end it.

Not yet.

So they chose time.

A little more time.
