Chapter 31 - Chapter Thirty-One: Lines of Defense

The mansion felt alive with quiet purpose.

Alicia sat at the long table in the study, her sketchbook and notes spread in front of her. Daniel had prepared a binder of evidence, screenshots, timestamps, and digital logs. Michael stood beside her, arms crossed, his gaze sharp and unwavering.

"We start by proving the design existed in your portfolio before the accusations," Daniel explained calmly. "Time stamps, client submissions, your sketches… all documented."

Alicia nodded, tracing the edges of her earlier sketches. "I've kept everything. Every revision, every idea."

Michael's hand brushed briefly against hers as he leaned slightly closer. "Good. That will be enough. But we need to be thorough."

Her pulse quickened not from fear this time but from the quiet reassurance of him being there. She looked up and saw his gaze on her, steady, protective.

Meanwhile, Sophie and Adrian were stationed across the mansion, laptops open, piecing together patterns in social media posts and the accounts spreading the accusations.

"I think I found something," Sophie said softly, pointing at a suspicious account. "This user only surfaced yesterday and is connected to multiple reposts with similar wording."

Adrian leaned closer, brushing her shoulder lightly as he peered at the screen. "Interesting. Whoever this is wanted it to go viral fast. Coordinated."

Sophie's fingers paused on the keyboard as she felt the warmth of his presence. "You're… very calm about this," she murmured.

He smirked faintly. "Some things require patience. Others… strategy."

Their eyes met briefly, a quiet understanding passing between them before they returned to the work at hand. Slowly, carefully, the air around them shifted. Moments of subtle laughter, shared glances, and light touches deepened the connection between them, even as the mansion's main focus remained Alicia's crisis.

Downstairs, Alicia's father arrived unexpectedly, his expression a mix of concern and determination.

"Are you alright?" he asked, approaching her gently.

Alicia looked up, relief flickering across her features. "I… I'm okay. Just… busy."

He reached out, placing a firm hand on her shoulder. "I saw what happened online. I want you to know… I believe in you. And I'm here if you need support."

She swallowed hard, the weight of his presence grounding her. "Thank you, Dad. That means more than you know."

Back upstairs, Daniel called Michael over. "Sir, I've traced the digital lead to a physical location. It's subtle, but this is where the initial posts originated."

Michael's eyes narrowed. "Then we go. Now."

Alicia, standing beside him, felt the tension tighten in her chest but not paralyzing this time. She was prepared. And with Michael, Daniel, Sophie, and Adrian by her side… she felt formidable.

Later that night, the group gathered in the mansion's strategy room. Maps, laptop screens, and notes covered the table. Sophie and Adrian worked side by side, quietly coordinating social media responses and evidence, while Alicia reviewed her own sketches, time stamps, and correspondence for proof.

Michael placed a hand on her back as she paused. "You're ready," he said softly. "This will clear everything."

Alicia's breath hitched slightly. "I hope so."

Michael leaned down, brushing his lips briefly against her temple a silent reassurance. She leaned into him, feeling the comfort of shared resolve.

Across the room, Sophie and Adrian exchanged a glance. The subtle closeness between them, the light brush of hands as they passed notes, the shared smiles it was slow, deliberate, and careful. Neither wanted to rush, yet the tension in the mansion made every small connection feel vital.

Outside the mansion gates, the enemy watched through hidden channels, their expression darkening. Alicia's connection to Michael had been identified, and the Plagiarism incident was a wedge. But the enemy underestimated the mansion's defenses, both strategic and emotional.

Daniel tapped the secure line. "Sir, ma'am, the lead is confirmed. We have a location, and it matches the online activity. They're careful, but not careful enough."

Michael nodded, fists tightening. "Then it ends here. Together."

Alicia's hand found his again. "Together."

Sophie leaned closer to Adrian, whispering, "Step by step, right?"

He nodded, their fingers brushing lightly as they returned to work. "Step by step."

For now, the house hummed with purpose, love, and quiet strategy. But the storm outside and the confrontation ahead was only beginning.
