"Show me the quarry," he said. "I need to see it for myself."
The twins exchanged glances.
"It's a two-hour walk," Ariani said. "The roads are bad. And the water's cold. You'll need boots that go up to your thighs."
Kaelen looked at his boots. They were fine for snow, not for wading through a flooded quarry.
"We'll find a way," he said. "Get your coats. We leave in ten minutes."
The twins grinned. Two identical smiles, but the expression was different on each face. Ariani's was sharp, eager, a predator scenting prey. Aperi's was softer, more thoughtful, like he was already calculating the route in his head.
Kaelen walked to the door. The beast at his heels. The bond hummed. Somewhere in the manor, Lysander said he didn't need to worry, he should be fine. He didn't need to know, right he was going to a quarry right?
He would manage. Markus would blabber so he needed to send him away, he will be fine he can't keep on depending on others when will he grow. Right?
