The water called to him.
Kaelen stood at the cliff's edge. The eastern shore. Wind pulled at his cloak. Salt spray hit his face, Cold, Sharp but he felt none of it for some reason. The sea churned below.
He should not have come alone but he felt like doing so.
He left the castle no guards in sight that should have been a tell that something was wron but he just wanted to go to the sea.
The wind changed.
The water went still.
The waves stopped moving, the foam froze on the rocks. The gulls went quiet. Everything stopped.
Instead of moving away Kaelen, leaned forward. Peered down at the water.
And Something looked back.
A face, pale, smooth. Hair floated around it like smoke. The eyes were silver and its ears were like fish fins.
The mouth opened, no sound came out. But Kaelen heard it anyway. A song, low, deep. It did not travel through his ears. It traveled through his bones.
He snapped out of it and tried to step back.
