Chapter 97 - The Edge Of Becoming A Monster

The battlefield trembled under Kael's rage.

Not uncontrolled rage.

That would have been easier.

This was focused.

Cold.

Purposeful.

Which made it far more terrifying.

The silver chains binding Elara continued glowing brighter as the system forced suppression directly into her synchronization. Frost cracked unevenly around her feet while the unstable memories inside her surged painfully against the restraints.

And every second the chains remained—

Kael became more dangerous.

The silver figure raised its hand again.

"FORCED ERASURE READY."

Massive rings of silver light formed across the shattered sky, all aimed directly toward the restrained Elara.

Riven's face immediately dropped.

"…No, no, no—that's very bad."

Kael moved again instantly.

Distorted space erupted around him violently as he tore through another layer of system barriers.

The battlefield itself screamed beneath the pressure.

Reality no longer stabilized properly around Kael's movements. Space bent unnaturally wherever he stepped, fragments of existence folding and cracking like glass around him.

The Divine forces stayed back now.

Watching carefully.

Even they no longer wanted to approach him directly.

Because something inside Kael had crossed into dangerous territory.

The Soul Hall authority observed silently.

"The anomaly is abandoning restraint."

The Inferno Monarch's cursed flames flickered unevenly.

"He is becoming unstable."

"No," the Shadow presence whispered.

"He is becoming absolute."

The silver rings above the battlefield ignited.

Then the erasure beams descended.

Kael reacted immediately.

The domain surged upward violently, distorted space colliding against the silver light hard enough to split the sky itself.

The battlefield exploded.

But there were too many attacks.

Several beams slipped through.

Straight toward Elara.

Kael's eyes widened sharply.

And for the first time—

fear broke through his calm completely.

"Elara!"

He forced the domain beyond its limit.

Reality cracked.

The remaining beams vanished mid-descent as distorted space crushed them apart unnaturally.

But the backlash hit Kael directly.

A violent fracture exploded through the domain connection.

Blood spread across his side instantly.

Riven stepped forward instinctively.

"Kael!"

But Kael barely reacted.

His attention never left Elara.

Still chained.

Still trapped.

Still hurting.

The silver figure observed silently.

"PROTECTIVE PRIORITY EXCEEDS SELF-PRESERVATION."

"EMOTIONAL OVERRIDE CONFIRMED."

Elara looked at Kael carefully through the glowing restraints.

And her chest tightened painfully.

Because she could see it now.

He was reaching the edge.

The edge where he would stop caring about consequences entirely.

All because of her.

"Kael," she called softly.

He immediately looked toward her.

The battlefield itself seemed to pause whenever she spoke now.

And that frightened her even more.

"You need to stop."

"No."

The answer came instantly.

"You're destroying yourself."

"I don't care."

Silence.

Even the Divine forces reacted slightly to those words.

Because Kael had never spoken like that before.

Elara's heartbeat became painfully uneven.

"Kael…"

"You think I'll stand here and watch them take you?" His voice remained calm—but underneath it was something breaking apart. "That was never going to happen."

The chains tightened again.

Pain crossed Elara's face briefly.

And Kael snapped.

The battlefield imploded.

Distorted space surged across reality itself, swallowing the silver barriers, the fractured terrain, even sections of the sky. The system's authority visibly trembled under the pressure as Kael advanced directly toward Elara through collapsing space.

The silver figure reacted immediately.

"DANGER LEVEL EXCEEDS PREDICTION."

"EMERGENCY EXECUTION—"

Kael interrupted it.

For the first time.

The system voice cut out violently as distorted space crushed the surrounding authority symbols apart.

Riven stared in shock.

"…He interrupted the system…"

The silver figure finally moved backward.

One step.

Then another.

Because Kael's domain was no longer merely resisting system authority.

It was overwhelming it.

Elara watched him approach through the collapsing battlefield.

And fear mixed painfully with something else inside her chest.

Because the person walking toward her now—

looked ready to destroy anything that stood between them.

Even himself.

The silver chains cracked slightly under the pressure.

Kael reached out toward them slowly.

But before he touched them—

Elara spoke again.

Quietly.

"…If you keep going like this… you'll become something you hate."

That stopped him.

Not completely.

But enough.

The battlefield trembled in unstable silence.

Kael looked at her carefully.

And for the first time since losing control—

uncertainty crossed his expression.

Because deep down—

he knew she was right.

The system noticed immediately.

"EMOTIONAL CONFLICT DETECTED."

The silver figure raised its hand again.

And suddenly—

a new voice echoed across the battlefield.

Cold.

Ancient.

Familiar.

"Interesting."

The entire battlefield froze.

Even Kael's expression changed instantly.

Because he recognized that voice.

Vireon had arrived.
