I know this because Lucas has been monitoring his movements through a combination of security feeds, Kevin's threat assessment algorithms, and Maggie's tearful early-warning system. Maggie calls at exactly nine-fifteen in the morning, her voice thick with emotion.
"Mr. Vane is in the lobby, Ms. Chen. He doesn't have an appointment, but he's being very charming and I don't know how to make him leave without crying, and I've already cried twice today, and—"
"It's okay, Maggie," I interrupt gently. "Let him up. Lucas is here. Sophie is hiding in the hallway with her butter knife. Kevin is documenting everything from the corner. I'm safe."
Maggie sniffles. "Kevin said my tear production rate is down twelve percent this week. He said it's a sign of emotional growth."
"That's wonderful, Maggie. I'm proud of you."
