Chapter 14 - frendne house

JAY (POV)

My eyes opened slowly.

The car was still moving.

Everything felt heavy in my head.

Then it slipped out before I could stop it.

"…Where's Robin?"

Silence.

Instant.

Mia turned around slowly.

Ben froze mid-breath.

Keeper didn't even move.

Then—

Percy leaned back in his seat.

"…Who's Robin?"

I blinked at him.

"What?"

He shrugged casually, like it was nothing.

"Never heard of him. Is he important? Because I feel like I would remember if I was involved."

Ben immediately snapped his head toward him.

"Dude—"

Percy ignored him.

"I mean, I am kind of a big deal, so if I knew a Robin I think I'd remember."

Mia elbowed him. "Not the time."

Percy frowned. "What? I'm just asking."

Silence fell again.

Tighter this time.

I looked down.

My chest felt weird.

"…Never mind," I muttered quietly. "Forget it."

Mia quickly leaned forward. "Jay, don't stress—just breathe, okay?"

Ben nodded. "Yeah, yeah, ignore him."

Percy raised a brow. "Rude. I'm literally right here."

Keeper finally sighed.

"…Focus."

Then Percy's phone buzzed.

He looked at it.

His expression changed slightly.

"…Oh."

I frowned. "What?"

He looked up.

"Kuya Angelo called."

My stomach dropped a little.

Mia straightened immediately.

Ben stopped joking.

Keeper glanced at the mirror.

Percy continued, still annoyingly calm.

"He said he needs you at his house."

I shook my head instantly.

"No."

Mia blinked. "Jay—"

"No," I repeated.

Ben sighed. "It's Angelo…"

"I don't care."

Percy shrugged like it was nothing serious.

"He didn't sound like he was asking, though."

Silence.

Keeper started the turn.

Mia whispered, "We're going anyway, aren't we?"

Ben nodded.

Percy leaned back again.

"Yep."

I stared out the window.

"…I hate all of you," I muttered.

Percy smiled slightly.

"Love you too, Jay."

The car slowed down.

Then stopped.

I didn't move right away.

"…We're here," Keeper said quietly.

Of course we were.

Mia opened the door first.

Ben followed.

Percy stretched like this was some casual hangout.

"Finally. I was getting bored."

I rolled my eyes.

"…You're always bored."

"Because I'm too important to be entertained," he said proudly.

I stared at him.

"…That doesn't even make sense."

"Exactly."

Mia sighed. "Both of you stop."

We walked in.

The moment the doors opened—

everything felt different.

Quiet.

Too controlled.

Too clean.

Like the house was waiting.

Aries was already there.

Standing near the entrance.

Serious.

Keeper went still beside me.

Ben lowered his voice. "Yeah… I don't like this."

Percy leaned slightly toward me. "If I get attacked, I'm blaming you."

I squinted at him. "Why me?"

"Because you're the main character."

I groaned.

Before I could answer—

footsteps.

Slow.

Sharp.

Angelo.

He walked in from the hallway.

And everything stopped.

Even Percy stopped talking.

That was rare.

Angelo's eyes went straight to me.

Not anyone else.

Just me.

"…Jay," he said.

I crossed my arms slightly.

"What now?"

Silence.

Mia shifted uncomfortably.

Ben stood straighter.

Keeper didn't move.

Percy whispered, "Why does it feel like I'm in trouble and I didn't even do anything?"

Angelo ignored him completely.

His voice dropped lower.

"You're coming with me."

I frowned immediately.

"No."

No hesitation.

Just no.

Mia looked at me. "Jay—"

"I said no."

Angelo didn't react loudly.

He just stared at me for a second longer.

Then spoke calmly.

"…You don't get to refuse this one."

Silence.

That hit different.

Ben blinked. "Okay, that sounded serious."

Percy raised a brow. "Wait—serious serious?"

Keeper finally spoke.

"…What's going on?"

Angelo didn't answer them.

Still looking at me.

And for once—

no joke.

No softness.

Just control.

And something underneath it.

"…Because," he said quietly, "this isn't optional."

My stomach tightened slightly.

Mia looked worried now.

Ben stopped joking completely.

Percy leaned back slightly.

"…Okay yeah," he muttered. "This is above my pay grade."

And I just stood there.

Realizing—

this wasn't a normal visit.

I could feel it.

In the silence.

In the way Aries wouldn't look away.

In the way Angelo was staring at me.

Like he was waiting.

For something.

For me.

I crossed my arms tighter.

"I'm not going."

Angelo's jaw tightened.

"Jay."

"No."

The room immediately became tense.

Mia looked nervous.

Ben rubbed the back of his neck.

Keeper was watching me carefully.

Percy looked between us.

"Okay... now I'm invested."

Nobody paid attention to him.

Angelo took a step forward.

"You are coming with me."

I took a step back.

"No."

"Jay."

"No."

"JAY."

The shout echoed through the mansion.

Everyone froze.

Even Percy.

And Percy never shut up.

My heart jumped.

Angelo rarely shouted.

Almost never.

But now?

He looked furious.

No.

Not furious.

Scared.

That somehow felt worse.

"What are you hiding?" Angelo demanded.

I looked away.

"Nothing."

"Don't lie to me."

"I'M NOT!"

Silence.

Aries suddenly looked at me.

Really looked at me.

Then his eyes widened slightly.

"Wait..."

My stomach dropped.

No.

No no no.

Aries knew.

"Jay..." Aries whispered.

I felt panic rising.

"Don't."

Angelo immediately noticed.

"Don't what?"

Nobody answered.

Mia looked down.

Ben looked away.

Keeper closed his eyes briefly.

Angelo's expression darkened.

"What happened?"

Silence.

Then Aries spoke.

And I wanted the floor to swallow me.

"She wasn't sleeping."

The room froze.

Angelo slowly turned toward him.

"What?"

Aries swallowed.

Then looked at me.

Then back at Angelo.

"She told me she was having trouble sleeping."

No.

Stop.

Please stop.

"Aries."

My voice cracked.

But he kept going.

"And..."

His face fell.

"And she said she took sleeping pills."

The silence that followed was horrifying.

Mia's eyes widened.

Ben looked shocked.

Percy straightened immediately.

Keeper's head snapped toward me.

"What?"

Aries looked sick.

Angelo didn't move.

Not even a little.

His voice became dangerously calm.

"Jay."

I couldn't look at him.

"Look at me."

I didn't.

"LOOK AT ME."

I flinched.

Slowly.

I raised my head.

His eyes locked onto mine.

"How many?"

My throat closed.

"Jay."

My vision blurred.

"How many?"

Tears started falling.

I hated this.

I hated all of this.

"I..."

My voice broke.

Mia covered her mouth.

Ben looked horrified.

Keeper looked angry.

No.

Not angry.

Terrified.

"Jay."

Angelo's voice was lower now.

"How many?"

I couldn't stop crying.

My chest hurt.

Everything hurt.

And finally—

"...Four."

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Then Keeper exploded.

"FOUR?!"

I flinched hard.

"What were you THINKING?!"

"Keeper—" Mia started.

"No!"

He stepped forward.

His voice shaking.

"Do you understand how dangerous that is?!"

Tears poured down my face.

"I'm sorry—"

"Sorry?!"

Ben grabbed Keeper's arm.

"Dude!"

Keeper pulled away.

"You scared all of us!"

My breathing became uneven.

Too fast.

Too hard.

The room started spinning.

Mia noticed first.

"Jay?"

I couldn't hear properly anymore.

Everything sounded far away.

Angelo was saying something.

Ben too.

Someone called my name.

Then another.

The floor tilted.

My knees gave out.

And the last thing I heard before everything went dark was—

"JAY!"
