Chapter 36 - Dual Meet

Saturday's dual meet carried the usual heat and noise—starting guns, spikes on rubber, the low roar of parents in the metal stands. Jett ran the 400 and the anchor leg of the 4x4. Clean. Efficient. No wasted motion. He finished both races with the same flat expression he wore in the classroom.

Marisol worked the infield in her black coaching polo and visor, stopwatch in one hand, voice sharp when a handoff lagged. Every time her eyes crossed the track they found Jett for half a second longer than necessary, then moved on like nothing had happened.

Isabel Vargas sat in the third row of the home stands, dark sunglasses on, one leg crossed over the other. Mateo had already finished his events. She clapped at the appropriate times and otherwise stayed still, her attention divided evenly between the boy on the track and the woman with the stopwatch.

Jett felt the weight of both gazes without ever looking directly at either of them for long.

After the final race the team filtered toward the buses and parent cars. Kai was already talking about the team dinner. Marisol stood near the finish line collecting clipboards. Jett passed close enough to speak without raising his voice.

"Sunday. Same as planned."

Her nod was almost invisible. "Side gate will be open."

He kept walking.

Isabel intercepted him near the edge of the parking lot, far enough from the cluster of athletes that the conversation stayed private.

"Clean races," she said. "You run like you do everything else—controlled."

Jett adjusted the strap of his bag. "You still watching."

"Of course." She glanced once toward Marisol, who was now speaking with another coach. "She looks different when you're on the track. Less locked down. It's subtle, but it's there. You're already inside her head during meets. That's impressive."

"And you?"

Isabel's mouth curved. "I'm still deciding how much of a risk you're worth. Sunday you're with her again. I know. I'll be elsewhere. But next week I want an answer, Jett. Not a coffee conversation. Something clearer."

She didn't wait for a reply. She simply walked toward her car, Mateo already waiting in the passenger seat.

Jett watched her go, then headed for his own ride.

Sunday arrived quiet and hot.

Kai left for the team dinner at 4:50. At 5:10 Jett slipped through the side gate and into the garage. Marisol was already there, barefoot, wearing only an oversized team t-shirt that ended mid-thigh. No leggings. No underwear. Her hair was down.

She locked the door behind him and went to her knees without being told.

The blowjob was slow and thorough. She took him deep, eyes watering, one hand braced on his thigh, the other wrapped around the base. Every time he pulsed against her tongue she made a soft sound of satisfaction. When he finally pulled her up she was breathing hard, lips swollen, pupils blown.

Jett lifted her onto the hood of the Civic, spread her legs, and pushed inside in one stroke. She was already soaked. The sound she made was raw and grateful. He fucked her hard and steady, one hand on her throat—not squeezing, just holding—while the other kept her hips exactly where he wanted them. The garage filled with the wet rhythm of skin and the broken noise of her trying to stay quiet.

"Say it," he ordered when she was close.

"I'm yours—" The words fractured as the first orgasm hit. "Fuck, I'm yours, Jett, I'm—"

He didn't stop. He kept the same relentless pace until she came again, harder, thighs clamping around him, forehead pressed to his shoulder to muffle the cry. Only then did he bury himself deep and finish, pulsing inside her while she trembled and clung to him.

They stayed joined afterward, breathing against each other. Marisol's fingers traced idle patterns on the back of his neck.

"I saw her yesterday," she said quietly. "Isabel Vargas. In the stands. She was watching you more than she was watching Mateo."

Jett didn't tense. "I know."

Marisol pulled back just enough to look at him. There was no accusation in her face, only a tired, clear-eyed understanding. "She's not subtle. And she's not the type to watch for no reason."

"She approached me after the meet."

Marisol's eyes searched his. "What did she want?"

"A conversation. And then more than a conversation."

Silence stretched. Marisol's internal walls had already fallen; what remained was the practical calculus of a woman who had accepted her place and now had to decide how much of the expanding board she could live with.

"Are you going to?" she asked.

"I haven't decided."

She nodded once, slow. "If you do… I don't want to know the details. Not yet. I can handle being yours. I'm not sure I can handle watching it happen to someone else in real time."

Jett brushed his thumb across her lower lip. "You're first. That doesn't change."

Something in her expression eased. She leaned in and kissed him—soft, lingering, almost tender. When she pulled away her voice was steadier.

"Next window is Wednesday. Kai has a late lab. I'll leave the gate open."

"I'll be here."

He cleaned her up, helped her back into the t-shirt, and left through the side gate the same way he had arrived.

Across the street, half-concealed by the same low hedge, Isabel Vargas lowered her phone. She had not needed to hear the words. The way Marisol had clung to him afterward, the lingering kiss, the flushed, settled look on the coach's face when she finally went inside—those were enough.

Isabel typed a short message she did not send yet.

Then she smiled to herself, turned, and walked away.

Monday morning Jett's phone buzzed with a new number.

Unknown: Saturday confirmed what I already suspected. You're not just fucking her. You're rewriting her. I want the same. Name the time and place. No more watching from a distance.

Jett stared at the screen for a long moment.

Then he saved the contact under a single initial—I—and locked the phone without answering.

On the track that afternoon Marisol's eyes found his across the infield and held for one full second longer than safety allow

ed. The message was clear.

She was still his.

And the next fracture had already begun to open.
