Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Reborn As Rick’s First Child

"Hello! My name is Barnabas Nickleson, or rather, it used to be. I was once a promising young man with a bright future, or at least that's what my mother used to tell me before she died of cancer. After that day, I fell into a deep depression and began drinking and doing drugs. My once bright and promising life was heading down a path of sex, drugs, and alcohol, a completely depraved lifestyle. I never had a father in my life, so my mother was my only source of familial connection, and once she died I had lost all meaning of life, but everything changed when I found the show Rick and Morty. I finally felt a connection with the man known as Rick, as he seemed to experience the same depressing fate as I had, and this left me to resonate with his life on a deeper and more emotional level. I finally began to dig myself up out of depression by setting a goal for myself, and as my life began to get better, I was once again fucked by the cosmic laws that is Fate"

-Sh-Boom by: The Chords; Playing in the background-

As Barnabas walked down the street while listening to the music playing in his headphones, he failed to notice that the further he walked, more and more people around him began to lessen until he was the only person left on the street. As he began to cross the crosswalk that was green with the indication of pedestrian crossing, a loud honking sound along with the bright headlights being the last thing Barnabas was met with before his consciousness faded to black, Sh-Boom still playing as the headphones lay haphazardly on the ground, cords covered in blood and chunks of flesh.

Life seemed to be getting better for Barnabas, but life obviously had other plans for him, as the once foggy and faded consciousness began to return, what met him was the bright lights of a hospital room with the large face of a doctor holding him in his arms as he began to wrap him in a swaddle while calling out to the blonde woman laying nearby on the bed, seemingly exhausted and in pain. Next to the blonde woman was a young man with silver blue hair and a slightly pale complexion. He held the blonde woman's hands with a bright smile on his face as he stared deeply into her eyes with love and tenderness.

"Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez! It's a boy!"

At the doctor's proclamation, both the newly minted parents looked over towards the small child in the doctor's arms, their eagerness to hold the child evident, and the doctor didn't keep them waiting, as he quickly passed the child over to the woman still laying in bed, as she began to tease and play with the small child in her arms that seemed to be looking around in curious wonder at the world that he found himself brought into.

"Honey, he looks beautiful! But… Why isn't he crying?"

As the blonde woman held the small child, she couldn't help but fear something was wrong, as from the prenatal research she had done while at home had told her that it was common and expected for newborns to cry and fuss as they have just experienced the pain of being pushed through a small hole, just like how the woman experiences pain, so crying is common, but what she is currently experiencing is the complete opposite. The child in her arms doesn't seem to be in pain, and as she thought back to how the child acted right after birth, there did seem to be some crying, but it quickly faded shortly after.

"Perhaps the little guy is gonna grow up to be a little monster! Haha"

The blue haired man couldn't help but interject from the side to help ease his wife's worries, as the doctor had said everything was okay, so he felt it was best to ease his wife's worries rather than let them fester.

"Yeah, you're right. So, what should we name him?"

As the two moved past their previous concerns, the conversation of picking a name had arisen. The man wanted to put forth his idea, but it was obvious that the decision ultimately lay with the woman in the end.

"Hmm, He has a mixture of both our hair colors, and he looks like he will be a ladies man, just like his father. I say we name him Jason"

As the man put forth his idea, the woman began to ponder the name, but ultimately it didn't feel right as a new name came to mind.

"Jason is nice, but I think Chase will be better… Chase Sanchez"

When the man heard this name, he pondered the name and ultimately nodded in approval, and with that, the young and bright Barnabas Nickleson had now become Chase Sanchez. Meanwhile, the newly minted Chase Sanchez was in his own world of thought.

'How can this be! W-Was I reborn into the world of Rick and Morty?! But that can't be right, Rick never had a son! Does that mean the entire multiverse will now have a new copy of myself?! That doesn't seem good, I want to be unique! Or perhaps this universe is one that falls outside of the central finite curve? Perhaps this is a universe where Rick isn't considered the smartest man in the universe and thus this universe is unique in its own right?"

Just as Chase was deep in contemplation, the exhaustion from being a newborn began to take hold of him as he fell into slumber.

Soon, years had passed, Chase had grown from a small infant into a young boy of about 8 years old. He had taken after his father in a lot of ways, and this had caused both his parents to sprout smiles of joy and expectation. His mother Diane had just found out that she was pregnant, meaning Chase would have a sibling, while his father, Rick was proud to have another potential prodigy join the family. Over the years, Rick had taught Chase about mathematics and quantum sciences, as Chase had seemed to take an interest in any and everything Rick did.

Chase on the other hand had come to find out that while he wasn't endowed with some great super power or all powerful system like that presented in then fantasy novels of his past life, he was endowed with a photographic memory, as well as what seemed to be a massive comprehension boost that allowed for him to absorb knowledge and comprehensively process and utilize the knowledge to further expand his understanding. At 8 years old, Chase has the knowledge and ability to obtain a PhD in all subjects from math, science, literature, and medicine. His knowledge expands on the 4 main subjects to encompass everything from algebra all the way to quantum physics.

His most recent escapades was learning the basic theory for portal travel from Rick, as this marks the year that Rick begins to delve into the theory, and Chase expects Rick to be able to crack portal travel in around 6 or 7 years, but Chase hopes that he himself might crack it first, as he feels that staying on earth is boring now that he is capable of making things like laser guns, and low flying hover crafts.

Chase's most recent invention was turning his bike into a hover bike. When Rick had first found out, he was angry as he felt that he might hurt himself during experiments, but when Chase sat Rick down and began to explain his process while showcasing the bike's capabilities, Rick began to see his son in a new light. This son of his wasn't just some little boy who was ignorant of the world and its dangers, he was a younger version of Rick himself, and was possibly even smarter than Rick was at that age. Upon realizing that his son was growing up and becoming a capable young man, Rick's parental protection began to relax, as he felt Chase was capable of handling himself, and knew that if something happened that he wasn't capable of handling, he as his father could step in to solve the issue.

"Dad, I'm going out to get some solder and sparkplugs, I have a new idea to upgrade my hover bike and it requires a tuneup for the motor engine"

Chase had poked his head into the living room where he saw his father and mother gathered together while holding and playing with the newest addition to their family, a small blonde girl named Beth. She was just born a week earlier, and with a new baby in the house, Rick had put his inventions on hold and put more time into child rearing.

"Right on, son! Be safe, and make sure to watch the roads, I don't want you crashing that hover bike and hurting yourself"

"I know, dad. Plus, I don't even have to drive the thing now, I added an autopilot that does the driving for me! Hahaha!"

When Rick heard this, he could only respond with a cheeky smile, as it was obvious that as the days passed, this son of his was becoming more and more like him.

As Chase made his way into the garage, he pulled out a retrofitted red bicycle, and began pelting it down the sidewalk, and as he got further from his home, he pressed the red button on the handlebar, and as the signal was sent to the electrical components, the bike began to expand as the wheels began to twist and contort as an electrical current started circulating around the tire rim as a repelling force began to propel the bike off the ground. The small bike seat began to expand into a reclined chair as the surrounding space began to fill out into a metal shell while the handlebars transfigured themselves into a steering wheel while the bike petals became the accelerator and brake pads respectively.

The bike had transfigured itself into a single seated hover car, and as the car finished transforming, Chase pressed another button on the steering wheel that utilized the newly added stealth module that cloaked the vehicle to reflect and refract surrounding light that rendered the hover bike invisible to the surrounding bystanders and cameras. This module was installed after Chase had secretly taken his bike out for a spin after ignoring Rick's orders not to play out in public, and the result was Chase being pulled over by the police, and Rick had to come down to the station and erase everyone's memories so nobody started asking questions.

Soon, Chase had arrived at the hardware store and began shopping for all the things he needed. And while he only needed a few things, his brain couldn't help but begin coming up with ideas all on his own, and so a simple shopping trip turned into a supply restocking. Chase had bought a bunch of stuff ranging from simple nuts and bolts, all the way to machine parts and metal sheet plates. The most awkward part of the trip was paying for everything, as the cashier tried to contemplate why a 9 year old would be shopping alone, or even need these items to begin with, but Chase found that as long as he stays quiet and doesn't strike up a conversation, the awkward situation of trying to explain or come up with excuses never appears.

"Thank you for shopping with One Stop Handy Shop, please come again!"

Chase finished purchasing all the supplies he needed and quickly placed all his stuff in the back of his hover bike and quickly made his way back home. On the way back, he began contemplating the idea of creating a pocket dimension to hold all his groceries for future trips, as folding space had recently been a new achievement he had made, and it would also help in making his hover bike more spacious, as its current size is limited to how much framework can fit in the bike frame while still holding the appearance of a bike, but if he could turn the bike into a pocket dimension, he could theoretically turn his bike into a massive spaceship with the press of a button.

When Chase got home, the first thing he did was begin sorting all of his supplies to make finding what he needed easier. And then he began the process of crafting a storage bracelet that would house the folded space. While folding space sounds difficult, for Chase who eats, breathes, and sleeps quantum physics, folding space was as easy as filling a bowel with water, and in fact that was the concept of folding space, turning space into a condensed form of matter and containing it into an enclosed object. The hardest part for Chase was making the device to condense the surrounding space into a material form, but that was done using a bit of uranium dust to charge an ionized particalizer that condenses matter into a compact form, and all Chase needed to do was identify what it was that he wanted to condense. After a few hours, Chase had crafted 3 bracelets, each had the capability to house 5 cubic meters of space, While it's not as much space as he had hoped to gather, it was big enough to store everyday items, as the size could snuggly fit around 4 or 5 adult humans standing side by side. And with the bracelets in hand, Chase went to go show his new invention to his parents.

"Hey, dad! Look what I just made!"

Chase took one of the 3 bracelets and tossed it over to Rick while taking one of the other 2 and putting it on his own wrist. When Rick saw it, he first thought it was just a normal bracelet and seeing the other 2 in his son's hands thought it was an endearing creation meant to tie the family closer together, but the more he looked at the bracelet, Rick felt that it wasn't so simple, so he asked.

"Hmm, so what's up? What does it do?"

"Haha, Well I'm glad you asked, my dear father! I, your prodigal son, have cracked spatial folding!! That bracelet on your hand is capable of housing around 5 cubic meters of space, enough for general storage of things you want to keep close to you at all times. I also think it's great for grocery shopping, and saves on space!"

When Rick heard the introduction of the item, he couldn't help but widen his eyes in surprise, not because he was surprised by the concept of spatial folding, but because his son was able to pull it off. One had to note that Rick had only just recently overcome spatial folding himself, as it was one of the things he needed to overcome to make portal travel, as portals were created through folding space to connect one place to another, while what his son had created was just another aspect of spatial folding which was just folding space into a contained environment.

"Wow! My son is most definitely a genius! Haha, I'm proud of you, my boy!"

Rick ruffled his son's hair while taking his time to observe and test the bracelet his son had given him, and while it's not something that he couldn't make himself, it was something made by his son and given to him as a gift, so he wouldn't downplay the work Chase had put into creating the bracelet's, nor would he express that Chase was still behind him in the concept of spatial folding.

"Mom, I made one for you as well, you can use it for when you go shopping, or to hold anything you find precious and don't want to lose"

After gathering Rick's praise, Chase turned to his mother who had just finished feeding Beth and had put her to sleep, and presented her with a bracelet of her own while explaining how to use the bracelet.

"Aww, my son is so sweet! Thank you for your gift, I'm very happy you thought of me"

Diane took the bracelet with a smile and bent over to place a kiss on Chase's forehead while giving him a happy smile. Although growing up Chase was less affectionate toward Diane, that was because he was still emotionally attached to his previous life's mother and didn't want to accept this new life's mother as his real mother, but as he grew older, Chase had come to realize that his old life is over and this new life was what remained. So Chase chose to embrace his new mother while still holding respect for his old mother, while this had been the only life where his father was present.

"You're welcome, mom! Don't worry, next time I invent something that you can use, I'll definitely make one for you as well!"
