Chapter 29 - Phone Call

For several seconds nobody moved.

Herik stood motionless near the bedroom entrance, still wearing the same clothes from the night before. His expression looked empty, almost disconnected from everything around him.

Yokina immediately rushed toward him.

Juson followed more slowly.

Herik did not resist when Juson lifted him carefully into his arms. The boy remained silent while Yokina entered the bedroom ahead of them.

Inside the room, sunlight entered weakly through the curtains.

Yokina stood near the window quietly, her back facing him.

For several seconds she said nothing.

Then finally--

"What happened there?"

Her voice sounded smaller now.

Careful.

Afraid.

Juson avoided her eyes.

He slowly lowered Herik onto the floor before answering.

"I saw an ambulance."

Yokina turned immediately.

"And a police car."

The room fell silent again.

The moment she heard the word ambulance, her expression changed completely.

Something terrible had happened at Hakiten's house.

Both of them understood it.

Before she could ask another question, the phone rang loudly from the corridor.

The sound cut through the silence sharply.

Yokina hurried out first.

Juson followed behind her slowly.

She stopped near the phone and glanced toward him once before answering.

The line remained silent at first.

Then a woman's voice finally spoke from the other side.

Yokina listened carefully.

Juson stood close enough to hear parts of the conversation.

Hakiten.

Wanna.

Hospital.

Condition stable.

Police questioning.

Yokina responded quietly each time, her voice barely above a whisper.

Then the call ended.

The phone beeped softly before silence returned again.

Yokina lowered the receiver slowly.

"We need to go."

Juson nodded once.

Nothing more.

Minutes later, Yokina emerged from the house carrying Herik in her arms while a small bag rested over her shoulder.

Juson already waited near the car.

Neither of them wasted time speaking.

The hospital suddenly felt more urgent than explanations.
