Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Mysterious Maze and the Rock Monsters:-

The scent of sulfur from the volcano was replaced by the damp, metallic tang of an ancient cavern. The team stood before the mouth of a cave that looked like a jagged, hungry mouth. Inside lay the second location on their half of the scroll: The Maze of Whispers, the resting place of the Land Katana.

The Rules of the Dead

Lady Fujiko unrolled the parchment, her brow furrowed. "This is not a normal maze. It is guarded by the Sentinels of Earth—rock monsters that never sleep. They carry bows with arrows carved from cursed flint. If one touches your skin, you do not die. You become a statue, frozen in stone forever."

"Simple," Kairen chirped, sparks dancing on his fingers. "We just use our Kemeno to blast through."

"No," Pradhanjiro interrupted, his blind eyes turning toward the dark tunnel. "The walls of this maze are lined with Spirit-Dampening Ore. Your Kemeno power will not work here. You are just humans with swords."

The Team Split

To cover more ground, Krishenmaru made a tactical choice. He split the group into two units:

Team 1: Krishenmaru, Mikato, Fujiko, and Pradhanjiro.

Team 2: Kairen, Akimato, Kurozan, and Akuma.

"Stay within earshot," Krishenmaru warned. "If you hear the sound of grinding stone, run."

Inside, the maze was a nightmare of shifting walls. Team 2 rounded a corner only to find themselves face-to-face with a ten-foot-tall golem made of jagged granite.

"Everyone run!" Akimato shouted, his hand on his sheath. But as he looked into the creature's glowing eyes, he saw a flash of the future. "Wait... it's going to happen. In a few minutes, an arrow will strike me. I will become a statue."

"We can change the future!" Kairen yelled, but Akimato shook his head. "No. We can only accept it."

A rock sentinel appeared from the ceiling, leveling its flint bow at Akimato's chest. The arrow hissed through the air. At the last second, Kairen lunged, pushing Akimato out of the way. The arrow struck Kairen squarely in the shoulder.

In a heartbeat, the grey stone spread across Kairen's skin, freezing his face in a permanent look of defiance. Kairen was now a statue.

The Musical Diversion

Hearing the commotion, Team 1 realized they were being surrounded. Three rock monsters were closing in.

"We need to use their own weapons against them," Krishenmaru whispered. "But we need them to lower their guard. Mikato! Sing!"

"Sing?!" the thief sputtered.

"Now! And Pradhanjiro... dance!"

In the middle of the terrifying maze, Mikato began to belt out a loud, off-key melody. Pradhanjiro began a rhythmic, shuffling dance, his cane striking the floor like a drum. The rock monsters, ancient and confused by the sudden noise, lowered their bows to investigate the strange spectacle.

In that moment of hesitation, Krishenmaru moved. He vaulted off a wall, snatched an arrow from a monster's quiver, and jammed it into its back. He repeated the move with the second, turning the guardians into unmoving pillars of stone.

The Land Katana

They found the Land Katana at the very center of the maze, resting on a pedestal of solid emerald. Krishenmaru gripped the hilt. As he pulled the heavy brown blade free, the entire cavern began to groan. The maze started to sink into the earth, the stone walls crumbling into sand.

"We have to go!" Akuma shouted, carrying the stone statue of Kairen on his back.

They barely made it out before the cave collapsed entirely. They stood in the sunlight, victorious but wounded. Two katanas were theirs, but Kairen was frozen, and the Kaiju were still ahead of them in the hunt for the final three.
