Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Things She Chose Not to See

The signs were always there.

Not obvious. Not loud. Not enough to walk away.

But enough to feel… something wasn't right.

In the beginning, she didn't call them red flags.

She called them mood swings, misunderstandings, bad days.

Because it's easier to explain someone's behavior than to accept that it might hurt you.

The first time he ignored her message, it felt strange.

Not painful. Just unfamiliar.

She stared at her phone a little longer than usual, wondering if she said something wrong. When he finally replied hours later—casual, normal, as if nothing happened—she let it go.

"It's okay," she told herself.

"He must be busy."

And just like that, the first sign passed unnoticed.

Then came the inconsistency.

Some days, he was everything she could ask for—present, caring, attentive. He made her feel chosen, special, important.

And other days… he disappeared.

No explanation. No effort to make it make sense.

That's what confused her the most.

Because how can someone who makes you feel so loved also make you feel so unimportant?

But instead of questioning him, she questioned herself.

"Maybe I expect too much."

"Maybe this is normal."

"Maybe I'm the problem."

That's how it starts.

Not with him hurting her.

But with her doubting herself.

There were moments—small ones—when his words didn't sit right.

A joke that felt a little too sharp.

A tone that felt slightly dismissive.

A response that made her feel small.

She noticed all of it.

But she didn't react.

Because she didn't want to create issues.

She didn't want to seem difficult.

She didn't want to lose him.

So she stayed quiet.

And silence became her habit.

The more she ignored, the easier it became to ignore.

The more she adjusted, the more she was expected to adjust.

And slowly, something inside her started shifting.

She stopped expressing when she felt hurt.

Stopped asking questions.

Stopped expecting clarity.

Not because she didn't need it—

But because she was afraid of the answer… or the distance it might create.

That's the dangerous part of a wrong relationship.

You don't just ignore the signs.

You start training yourself to be okay with them.

There were nights when she felt uneasy for no clear reason.

Conversations that ended in confusion instead of comfort.

Moments where she felt alone… even while talking to him.

But every time doubt tried to rise, she pushed it down with hope.

"Things will get better."

"He wasn't like this before."

"I just need to be more patient."

Hope became her excuse to stay.

And slowly, reality became something she avoided.

Because deep down, she knew—

If she truly faced what she was feeling,

she might have to walk away.

And she wasn't ready for that.

So she chose the easier pain.

Ignoring.

Adjusting.

Staying.

Even when something inside her kept whispering—

"This isn't how it's supposed to feel."

But she didn't listen.

Not yet.
