The kiss lingered.
Not because either of them lacked restraint anymore.
Because neither wanted distance enough to create it.
Xu Chen could feel the warmth of Aum's hand against the back of his neck, fingers moving slowly through his hair while the room remained suspended in soft amber light and mountain silence.
Everything had slowed.
Not the wanting between them.
That still existed heavily beneath Xu Chen's skin every time Aum touched him.
But the fear had disappeared.
That was the dangerous part.
Xu Chen had expected intensity tonight.
Expected attraction.
Expected emotional collapse, probably.
He had not expected peace.
And yet here it was:
standing in the middle of his bedroom wrapped in Aum's arms while the world outside faded into irrelevance.
Aum kissed him once more, slower this time, and Xu Chen melted into it instantly.
God.
He trusted him too much already.
The realization should have frightened him.
Instead warmth spread quietly through his chest.
Aum pulled back only enough to look at him afterward.
Their foreheads rested lightly together while both of them breathed unevenly in the dim light.
Xu Chen noticed immediately that Aum was still watching him carefully.
Not analyzing now.
Checking.
Always checking.
Xu Chen touched his wrist gently.
"You know," he murmured softly, "most people would have stopped asking permission several emotional disasters ago."
Aum became still.
"Would you have preferred that."
The question carried genuine concern beneath it.
Xu Chen's chest tightened instantly.
"No." His fingers brushed lightly along Aum's jaw. "I think the reason I'm not afraid right now is because you keep giving me space to choose."
The silence afterward felt impossibly tender.
Aum's gaze softened immediately.
"You are important enough to choose."
God.
Xu Chen closed his eyes briefly because honestly this man was going to permanently damage his emotional stability.
When he opened them again, Aum was still looking at him with the same unbearable honesty.
Xu Chen smiled faintly.
"You really don't know how devastating you are, huh."
Aum considered this seriously.
"I am beginning to suspect it."
"That confidence is new."
"You caused it."
The answer entered Xu Chen slowly.
Warmly.
Dangerously.
Xu Chen kissed him again before thinking further became impossible.
Aum responded instantly now, hands sliding carefully along Xu Chen's back as the kiss deepened slowly between them.
No urgency.
No roughness.
Just increasing closeness.
Xu Chen felt the exact moment his body relaxed fully into Aum's touch for the first time all night. The tension he had carried unconsciously in his shoulders and chest slowly disappeared beneath careful hands and quiet warmth.
Aum noticed immediately.
"You relaxed."
Xu Chen laughed softly against his mouth.
"You sound proud of that."
"I am."
The honesty nearly ruined him again.
Xu Chen pulled back slightly, smiling helplessly now.
"You know what's terrifying?"
Aum looked at him immediately.
"What."
"I think if you touched me like this every day," Xu Chen said quietly, "I'd stop functioning as an independent human being."
Aum blinked once slowly.
Then, very softly:
"I do not think I would dislike that outcome either."
Xu Chen actually made a sound of disbelief.
"Aum."
"Yes."
"You absolutely cannot say things like that inside my bedroom."
"Why."
"Because I already have very limited self-control around you."
A faint pause.
"That appears mutual."
The room softened around them again immediately afterward.
Xu Chen realized suddenly that this was the first time in years he had allowed another person to see him like this—not professionally composed, not emotionally contained, not carefully distant.
Just wanted.
And wanting someone back openly.
The realization settled deep inside him.
Aum's fingers brushed lightly beneath the edge of Xu Chen's shirt once more.
Xu Chen inhaled sharply immediately.
Aum froze.
Xu Chen smiled faintly at the instant concern in his expression.
"You really stop every time."
"You react strongly."
"Yes," Xu Chen whispered softly. "Because it feels good."
Warmth moved visibly through Aum afterward.
Not triumph.
Relief again.
Like hearing Xu Chen enjoy him mattered more than anything else tonight.
Xu Chen suddenly understood that Aum's restraint wasn't caution born from uncertainty.
It was care.
That realization hit harder than desire ever could.
Xu Chen touched his face slowly.
"You're kind."
Aum looked genuinely surprised.
"That appears unrelated to current events."
"It's completely related."
Xu Chen's thumb brushed lightly beneath his jaw.
"You want me," he said quietly. "A lot." A faint helpless smile touched his mouth. "And somehow you still treat me gently."
The silence afterward became almost unbearably soft.
Aum looked at him for several long seconds before answering.
"I think wanting someone gently may be the correct way."
Xu Chen's entire chest ached.
No one had ever said something like that to him before.
No one had ever even thought like that around him before.
Xu Chen kissed him immediately after hearing it, warmth flooding through him so intensely it almost felt painful.
Aum responded with sudden closeness this time, one arm tightening around Xu Chen's waist while the other remained careful against his back.
The kiss deepened slowly.
Tenderness and desire folding into each other until Xu Chen could no longer tell where one ended.
Eventually Aum pulled back slightly, breathing uneven now.
His forehead rested lightly against Xu Chen's.
"You are tired," he said softly.
Xu Chen blinked once.
Then laughed quietly under his breath.
"You noticed that too?"
"Yes."
"That's unfair."
"You leaned more heavily against me during the last six minutes."
Xu Chen stared at him.
"You timed it."
"I observe you continuously."
God.
Xu Chen smiled helplessly and rested his forehead fully against Aum's shoulder.
The warmth of him felt dangerously comforting now.
Aum's hand moved slowly through his hair once again.
The gesture nearly put Xu Chen to sleep on the spot.
"You really are ruining solitude permanently," he murmured quietly.
Aum's voice came soft near his ear.
"Then perhaps you should stop sleeping alone."
