Chapter 13 - Ch. 13 Sovereign!

The sound didn't just echo—it slammed.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

The noise vibrated through the reinforced walls of the hidden training room, a rhythmic thunder that felt heavy with intent. At the center of the storm stood Leon. He was shirtless, his skin slick with a fine sheen of sweat that caught the overhead lights, highlighting a physique that looked less like a body and more like a masterpiece of functional violence. Every muscle was packed tight, defined by pressure and repetition. There was no wasted motion—only clean, predatory force.

Bang!

His fist collided with the "punching bag." It was a solid block of reinforced metal, custom-engineered because he'd already turned the standard equipment into scrap. Even this slab was failing; the surface was cratered with deep, overlapping dents, the edges warped by the sheer kinetic energy of his strikes.

Leon didn't slow down. He hit it like it was nothing. To him, it almost was.

It had been a week since the chaos at the Springfield amusement park. Since then, the world had gone eerily quiet. No enemies, no ripples in the shadows, no signs of the next move. But Leon wasn't fooled. Silence wasn't peace; it was the indrawn breath before a scream.

He didn't worry. He prepared. He focused on the evolution humming beneath his skin.

He remembered the shift clearly—the moment the system's cold, melodic chime had cut through his sleep just a few days prior.

[Ding! Infinite Sign-in Activated. Sign-in available!]

"Sign-in," he'd thought, his eyes snapping open.

[Ding! Sign-in Complete. Obtained 3rd Order Ability: Contract Authority.]

The weight of the knowledge had flooded him instantly. Contract Authority. It wasn't a blunt instrument like his thirty-ton strength; it was a scalpel. It was the power of the mandate.

[Contract Authority (Level - 1)]

* The Normal Contract: Absolute. Unlimited. A binding agreement of rules and consequences. To break it was to invite an instant, planetary-level erasure. No second chances.

* The Subordinate Contract: Total dominion. A one-on-one bond where the subject could never raise a hand—or even a thought—against him. In exchange, he could grant them a ten-percent fragment of his raw, terrifying physical power.

* The Companion Contract: The rarest. It required total, unhesitating trust. It allowed Leon to share twenty percent of his power and one of his specific abilities. Most importantly, it created a life-link: as long as Leon stood, they could not fall.

Leon's lips curved into a ghost of a smile as he recalled the details. He already knew exactly who would be the first to sign.

Bang!

The memory shattered under the force of one last punch. Leon lowered his arms, his breathing steady, his heart rate barely elevated. His strength had surpassed thirty tons and showed no signs of plateauing. Bullets were becoming minor

inconveniences; even sniper rounds would likely just catch in the dense weave of his muscle fibers.

He grabbed a towel, wiping his face, feeling the new calibration of his senses.

Footsteps.

Light, rhythmic, and familiar. He didn't need to look.

"You're going to need a new toy," Raven's voice drifted from the doorway. "That one's looking a little... concave."

Leon didn't turn around immediately. He picked up his tank top, draped it over his shoulder, and finally looked at her.

Raven had frozen in the doorway. Her eyes—usually sharp and guarded—were wide, openly scanning the topographical map of his torso. She didn't look away. There was no shy glancing; she just took him in with an appreciative, lingering stare.

"Leon... damn," she breathed, walking closer. "Your body is insane. Seriously, what girl is supposed to ignore that?"

The distance that had defined their early days had evaporated. Now, there was a comfortable, electric ease between them.

"Your eyes are going to fall out, Raven," Leon said dryly. He pulled the tank top on, hiding the muscle.

She clicked her tongue in mock disappointment. "Hey! You did that on purpose."

"Obviously."

She rolled her eyes, but her smile was genuine. She walked over to the metal block, her fingers brushing the jagged dents his knuckles had left behind. Her expression softened into something approaching awe.

"So this is the secret? Beating steel into submission?"

Leon stepped closer, the air between them warming. "No. My real secret is looking at pretty girls."

Raven blinked, her hand pausing on the cold metal. "You're joking."

"I'm serious."

She stared at him for a beat, searching for the punchline, then burst into a short, breathless laugh. "Wow. That's incredibly stupid."

But she didn't move away. If anything, she leaned into his space. Then, she snapped her fingers as if remembering the world outside the room. "Right—the party. It's already started."

Leon chuckled. "Got carried away."

"I figured," Raven said. She reached out, her hand lingering as she gripped his sleeve to tug him toward the door. "Go shower. Fast. Don't make me come back and drag you out of here."

The gesture was casual, intimate. Leon glanced at her hand, then at her. "Alright. Give me five minutes."

The lounge was a cacophony of teenage energy and ego. When Leon entered, the room was already a mess of discarded snacks and heated debates. Raven was in the center of it, flanked by Hank, Alex, Sean, and Armando.

"Finally!" Raven shouted the moment she saw him. "Perfect timing—we're finalizing the codenames."

Leon sat down beside her. She didn't shift away; their shoulders brushed, a natural alignment.

"I'm going with Mystique," she said, her chin tilted up. "Armando is Darwin."

Leon nodded toward Armando. "Adaptation? It fits."

"Dude," Alex interrupted, leaning forward.

"Earlier, Darwin stuck his head in the fish tank and literally grew gills. It was the weirdest, coolest thing I've ever seen."

"I'm thinking Banshee," Sean added, testing the sound of it.

"Angel works for me," the winged girl said, hovering a few inches off the sofa.

"And I'm Havok," Alex declared, his chest puffed out.

The room was buzzing, the air thick with the thrill of self-discovery. Raven nudged Leon with her elbow, her eyes bright with curiosity. "And you? What's the name for the man who punches metal for fun?"

Leon leaned back, his gaze sweeping over the group. He didn't look like a teenager playing hero; he looked like an observer watching a game he'd already won.

"Sovereign," he said.

The room went quiet for a moment. The name was heavier than the others.

"Sovereign?" Raven repeated, her voice dropping an octave. "What's the angle?"

"The one at the top," Leon said simply, his voice calm but absolute. "The one who doesn't answer to anyone. I want to be strong enough that nothing—and no one—can ever threaten my peace again."

Raven looked at him, really looked at him, for a long silence. A small, knowing smile played on her lips. "Yeah," she whispered. "That sounds exactly like you."

The moment of gravity was broken by a sudden shatter.

Banshee let out a focused note that turned a glass into dust. Havok, eager to show off, fired a ring of crimson energy that obliterated a nearby statue. Laughter erupted. They were young, powerful, and felt invincible.

Leon didn't join the cheering. He watched the door. He knew the timeline. He knew Sebastian Shaw was moving in the dark.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?!"

The voice of Moira MacTaggert cut through the revelry like a cold blade. She marched into the room, flanked by Charles and Erik.

Their faces were a study in disappointment.

"Who broke the statue?" Moira demanded, her hands on her hips.

"Alex Summers," someone muttered.

"No—Havok,"Raven corrected, her eyes dancing with rebellion. She pointed a finger at Charles and Erik. "Oh, and don't worry. We picked names for you two, too."

Leon watched Erik's expression—the subtle flicker of interest, the hardening of his jaw.

"Professor X," Raven announced, then shifted her gaze to Erik. "And Magneto."

Silence fell over the room. The fun was over, but the era of the Sovereign was just beginning.

To be continued...
