A smile spread across Senior Emilia's face when she heard what Jacob called her. "Yes, that's me, Jacob," she said ,and Jacob didn't miss the way tears glistened in her eyes.
Jacob stood up quickly to move closer to her.
To be clear, Senior Emilia wasn't his biological grandmother. He'd only started calling her that because his parents had encouraged it. Once, she'd served his family as their personal healer, and he remembered running to her small cottage whenever he had the chance.
"I never thought I'd see you again after all these years," Jacob said, wrapping his arms around her as tears streamed down his face. "I thought… I thought you'd died too in that massacre."
"I can't leave this world just yet. There are still things I need to do," she replied gently.
After a moment, Jacob slowly pulled away from the hug and sat down right beside her. Senior Emilia reached up to brush her thumb across his cheek, smiling warmly at him.
