Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 – Command

The military truck rolled slowly through the empty street.

Cole drove while the others kept watch from the back.

Alex sat on the passenger side, observing the city.

Atlanta was falling apart faster than anyone expected.

Smoke rose from several districts.

Military helicopters occasionally passed overhead.

But even the army looked overwhelmed.

Jackson leaned over the side of the truck.

"Walkers at the corner!"

Cole slowed the vehicle.

Five walkers staggered into the road.

Alex stepped out before the soldiers could fire.

"Save ammunition."

The soldiers watched as Alex approached the walkers alone.

Ramirez frowned.

"He's insane."

Cole shook his head.

"No… watch."

The first walker lunged.

Alex sidestepped and drove the knife into its skull.

He pulled the blade free and moved to the next target.

Every movement was efficient.

Precise.

Within seconds the street was silent again.

Jackson whistled.

"Damn."

Ramirez shook his head.

"I've seen special forces move slower."

Alex wiped the blade clean and climbed back into the truck.

Cole smirked slightly.

"Yeah… we definitely picked the right leader."

Alex ignored the comment.

Instead he opened the system again.

Supply Points: 34

Almost enough for something useful.

But not yet.

He closed the interface and looked ahead.

The city lights flickered weakly in the distance.

Somewhere far away, inside a hospital room…

A man named Rick Grimes still slept in a coma.

Unaware that the world had ended.

And unaware that another survivor had already begun building something new in the middle of the apocalypse.

Alex Mercer leaned back in his seat.

For the first time since the outbreak started…

He wasn't alone.

But leadership meant something important.

Responsibility.

Every soldier in that truck was now under his command.

Which meant their survival depended on his decisions.

Cole glanced at him while driving.

"You thinking about something?"

Alex answered simply.

"Yes."

Cole smirked.

"Welcome to command."

The truck continued rolling through the silent city.

And the night grew darker.
