Chapter 3 - The mind whisperer

Chen Yuxi leaned back in her chair, closing her eyes for just a moment.

System, update me on the office today.

A soft hum filled her mind, and a clear, calm voice replied:

"Accounting: Zhao Wei argued with Marketing about budget allocations. HR: Lin Mei's proposal is under review. Gossip: Someone in Sales is hiding a personal affair."

Her lips curved in a small, satisfied smile. The mind-linked system was flawless. No one could match her—she controlled the information in this office like a queen in a chess game.

She didn't notice Lin Guo entering silently. He leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, watching her.

How confident she is, he thought. She doesn't realize I can hear her.

The hum of her system continued in her head. She asked silently:

System, who leaked the Thompson merger report?

"Employee: Sun Jia. Motive: personal gain. Recommended action: monitor closely."

She nodded subtly, thinking no one could ever know her methods.

Wrong.

Lin Guo's eyes narrowed. Every question, every command, every subtle flicker of thought was loud and clear in his mind. He knew exactly what she was doing—and why.

"Yuxi," he said, calm, measured, and sharp. "I see you've created quite the… mental assistant."

She jumped, eyes wide, heart pounding. "You… how did you know?"

He smirked faintly, as if reading her inner panic. "I… guessed. Clever, but not invisible. You leave traces in your mind."

She froze. He can hear me. He can hear everything.

Lin Guo didn't press further—for now. Watching her, observing, letting her believe she was still in control was far more entertaining.

She thinks she's untouchable. That she has the upper hand.

He leaned slightly closer, voice low: "Be careful, Yuxi. Secrets have a way of slipping… even to the wrong ears."

She blinked, confused, unsettled, unaware that the wrong ears were already listening—and plotting.
