Chapter 1 - The Last Evening Light

Story: "The Light of the Last Evening"

It was the end of an autumn afternoon. The sky was painted in soft shades of orange. Arif stood in front of the college gate, holding a small diary in his hand. His eyes kept wandering toward the road.

Today, he had made a decision—one that could change his life forever.

Just then, he saw Meghla approaching from a distance. Wearing a white and blue salwar, her hair flowing freely, and that familiar smile… it felt like time had suddenly paused.

As Meghla came closer, she said,

"Hey Arif, why are you standing here so seriously?"

Arif smiled faintly.

"I wanted to tell you something…"

Meghla looked at him curiously.

"What is it?"

Arif stayed silent for a moment, then handed her the diary.

"Read this first."

Meghla slowly opened it. Inside were small notes, doodles, and her name—written over and over again.

On the first page, it said:

"The first day I saw you, I felt like no one in this world could smile as beautifully as you do..."

Meghla's eyes widened.

Two years ago…

It was the beginning of a new session. Arif felt nervous as he entered the college for the first time. Everything was new, and he knew no one.

Then Meghla walked into the classroom. The entire class seemed to fall silent for a moment. But what caught Arif's attention was her smile—so natural, so real.

That's where it all began.

At first, it was just silent glances. Then picking the same books in the library. Sometimes sitting together in the canteen.

One day, Meghla suddenly asked,

"Why are you always so quiet?"

Arif smiled.

"Everyone talks… someone has to stay quiet."

Meghla laughed.

"You're strange!"

That word—strange—felt the most beautiful to Arif.

Slowly, their friendship grew deeper.

Every morning started with a "Good morning" message, and every night ended with a "Sleep well." These small things became a part of their lives.

One rainy day, after college was dismissed, they were both standing at the bus stop.

Meghla said,

"I really love the rain."

Arif replied,

"Me too… but today, I like it a little more."

"Why?" she asked.

"Because you're here."

Meghla fell silent for a moment. Then she said,

"Why do you always say things like that?"

"Because it feels good to speak the truth."

That day, there was a different kind of light in Meghla's eyes.

But are all stories ever that simple?

One day, Meghla suddenly told him that her family was sending her to another city for her studies.

Arif felt shattered.

"You're leaving?"

"Yes… maybe in a few months."

"And what about us?"

Meghla remained silent.

Some questions don't have answers. Only feelings.

From that day on, an invisible distance grew between them. They still talked, still laughed—but something was missing.

The day Meghla left…

The station was crowded. The train was about to depart.

Arif stood a little far away. He wanted to say something—but couldn't.

Meghla came closer and said,

"Take care."

Arif replied softly,

"You too…"

The train started moving. Meghla looked out from the window. Arif looked back at her.

Neither of them said anything. But both knew—there was so much left unsaid.

Present…

On the last page of the diary, it was written:

"I don't know what you feel… but I love you. I always have. If you ever feel the same, let me know once. I'll be waiting..."

Tears filled Meghla's eyes.

She closed the diary and looked at Arif.

"Why didn't you tell me all this before?"

Arif replied softly,

"I was afraid… of losing you."

"And now?" she asked.

"Now, there's nothing left to lose."

There was silence for a moment.

Then Meghla smiled and said,

"Idiot! I've been feeling the same way all this time."

Arif was surprised.

"You mean…?"

"It means… I love you too."

Final Scene

The sun was setting. The sky was glowing with that same orange light.

They walked side by side.

No big promises, no dramatic words—just a gentle holding of hands.

Sometimes love is simple.

Sometimes, silence says everything.

In that soft light of the last evening, they finally understood—

True love never fades… it only waits for the right time.
