Kael found these quiet moments alone in his study the only time of the day he actually enjoyed. He had often found it amusing that the thing most rulers complained about was one of the few parts of being Demon Lord he genuinely loved.
The reports were stacked neatly across his desk. The ones he had yet to read were on one side, and the others waiting for his approval were stacked to his left.
Trade agreements awaiting his seal.
Harvest numbers.
Military budgets.
Repairs to roads, villages, and irrigation canals---
It was---
Quiet work…
No screaming at the end of it.
No people cursing his name.
No blood to wash from his hands afterwards…
He dipped his pen into the ink and signed another document with practiced ease, wishing that this was every day of his life.
Contrary to popular belief, Kael had never enjoyed violence...
Oh, he was good at it…
