Chapter 195 - Chapter 195: Mecha (EC)

Caleb did not care about this "minor matter." Compared to business dealings, the boundaries of technology were far more worthy of Caleb's attention.

"Governor! You're back!"

"How did it go? Did you teach those topsiders who look down their noses at everyone a lesson?"

"Governor! Now that you're back, our hearts are steady again!"

Caleb's mind was not on the expressions of these people, but on that research project.

The Mecha Project.

Only the Mecha Malphite they were creating, and the computer with immense computing power, could give them more chances of victory after this.

Instead of merely clinging to life in a chaotic world.

Perhaps this summer, Caleb would have to fight those Watchers to the death.

So the Mecha Project not only had to be done, it had to be done quickly.

Caleb did not want to reach the point where the Freljord had Iceborn, Shurima had Ascended, and the things he brought over ended up being useless.

That would make him feel like he was a step below everyone else.

Besides, bringing Mecha Malphite and Mecha Kha'Zix to deal with the Void would only consume manpower. It would not require lives to be lost.

Caleb only needed to bring those two things with him.

He did not know what stage their plan had reached.

Caleb had to go find them.

He had not seen any place in Piltover large enough to hold the entire Mecha Malphite.

It was probably in the depths of the undercity. Caleb immediately thought of their location.

After Janna purified the air, the depths of Zaun naturally became a danger zone, and no one really went there anymore.

Not to mention that most of the remaining toxins were there. If it were not for the need to make a living, many people would never have chosen to go there in the first place.

The three of them were all scientists. Building a device or structure capable of isolating, or even purifying, toxins would not be difficult for them at all.

If they chose that place as a testing ground, and with Blitzcrank keeping watch, Caleb felt that hiding it from prying eyes would not be difficult.

After understanding their line of thought, Caleb headed toward the depths.

The air here was harmless, basically.

But the water and soil had already been thoroughly contaminated, and it was best not to touch any of it.

Blitzcrank should be keeping watch for them.

Sure enough, a body made of brass soon entered Caleb's sight.

"Yo, Blitzcrank!"

In the depths, there was no one to be seen now.

If the previous Chem-Barons were still hiding here, they were probably not far from death.

After all, no supplies were being shipped in, and no products could be sold out.

So no one had expected that the four people who had mysteriously disappeared between the Twin Cities were actually here, busy with the "task" Caleb had assigned them.

But Caleb, as the person who had assigned that task, quickly understood their thinking.

"Oh, so you're already back?"

The first person Caleb saw was Ekko. His dreadlocks had long since become dirty in the most literal sense.

"I'm back. A small matter happened topside, so I came to see you all a little late."

Before Caleb could finish speaking, he was already shaken by the sight before him.

The Mecha Malphite from the game was already standing in front of Caleb.

"You worked this fast?"

Even Caleb could not help feeling excited when he saw this massive creation.

"What about the computer?"

Looking at this technological giant they had created, Caleb felt his emotions surge.

This was good. After this, Zaun's terrain would no longer have to remain so low.

And regarding the Void in the future, Caleb now had at least some confidence that they could win.

"Have you chosen a pilot?"

Caleb's voice carried a clear trace of excitement.

This was the first true collaborative work of the Twin Cities in the real sense.

Through the operation of Mecha Malphite, the Twin Cities could achieve a better geographical environment.

And Noxus to the north would no longer need to loom over them like something they had to submit to.

"Good work. This is the next Mecha suit. It's more difficult."

Caleb did not waste words and immediately took out the blueprints for Mecha Kha'Zix.

"This one is smaller, but it has greater evolutionary potential. It's also more suited for combat."

Seeing Ekko frown, Caleb added, "But this one doesn't need to be built in such a rush. I'll be staying in Zaun for a while after this."

"You're not leaving so quickly this time, right?"

When Ekko heard Caleb say he would not be leaving this time, his eyes brightened.

"The computer has also barely been completed, but its computing power still isn't enough. The professor's been losing fur by the handful."

Ekko was inevitably excited to see Caleb, and for a moment, he even blurted out this little anecdote about Heimerdinger.

"Being able to make it at all is already very good."

Caleb patted the young man on the shoulder. Although Ekko was not that many years younger than him, Caleb still felt he was a seedling with limitless potential.

Even putting everything else aside, just the discovery of the Z-Drive, something unprecedented and unlikely to ever be matched, would be enough for ordinary Piltover University scholars to brag about for a lifetime.

But Ekko's path of transformation would not vanish in Caleb's hands.

"You're here?"

Viktor's reaction was a little calmer. After all, after switching to Hextech-driven organs, he had become like Camille, with a little less human warmth.

"The testing has entered its final stage. It can reach the surface from the abandoned Dredge area. According to our calculations, the route will not damage the residential districts."

Hearing Viktor's words, Caleb's previously poor mood finally improved.

"You can build the next Mecha suit up there."

"But it is too combat-oriented. Safety must be placed above speed."

"Oh, my old back…"

As they were speaking, Heimerdinger also walked out. Beside him was Jayce, who looked somewhat high-spirited.

Both Viktor and Jayce could pilot this Mecha suit, but in the end, Viktor had given the opportunity to Jayce.

After all, most of the funding had still come from topside noble support. Heimerdinger's savings and Zaun's money had only played a small role.

However, the construction process of this giant Mecha suit had given several of them some ideas.

It could be considered a great harvest. Now it depended on who could turn those ideas into reality later.

"Long time no see."

Caleb looked at Jayce and Heimerdinger. In the depths, they must have researched and practiced day and night before finally building this grand Mecha suit.

So for the moment, Caleb really did not know how to tell them that he had killed Morey.

Hmm… better not mention it yet.

"Once testing is complete, it can be driven up to the surface."

Jayce looked at the wall of earth above them, his expression full of longing.

When that time came, his closest friend would no longer have to remain forever trapped in darkness.

"Good. When the time comes, show the council and prove their money wasn't wasted."

The robots on Viktor's assembly line were continuously feeding data back into the computer. Seeing this creation receive the Governor's approval, Ekko could not stop the pride from showing on his face.

All this time spent here covered in dust and grime had not been wasted.

"The time should be around noon tomorrow. It will take roughly twenty minutes."

Jayce was naturally referring to the trip up to topside.

The digging rate of Mecha Malphite's transformed drill could be called astonishing.

Before long, Zaun would also be able to enjoy vast stretches of sunlight.
