Chapter 2 - The Invisible Hand

The next morning, Veyris Academy buzzed with energy. Students rushed to classes, gossiping about the previous night's "accident" in the station. Nobody had any clue who caused it… or why.

Lucien Vale walked through the halls, quiet as always. His eyes scanned everyone – teachers, students, even the janitor. Each movement, each glance, was a calculation.

Step two, he thought.

Divide and conquer.

He noticed a group of popular students huddled near the lockers, whispering. One of them, a tall boy named Kael Arden, was bullying a smaller student over grades. Lucien's lips curved into a faint smile.

He didn't approach Kael directly. That would be too obvious.

Instead, Lucien left a small, anonymous note in Kael's locker:

Your reputation is at risk. Tonight, everyone will see the truth.

By the end of the day, Kael's carefully maintained social image began to crumble. Lucien had also leaked subtle rumors to the student council, ensuring that whispers of Kael's arrogance spread like wildfire.

But Lucien didn't stop there. He moved on to the teachers. A history teacher, known for favoritism, was manipulated into assigning Kael extra work publicly – on purpose. Kael protested, but the teacher insisted. Everyone laughed. Kael's influence began to crumble.

Lucien watched quietly from the hallway, as if he were just another shadow on the wall.

People believe they are in control, he mused.

Yet all they do is dance to the tune I play.

By mid-afternoon, the entire academy had unknowingly fallen into his web. Cliques fought each other, rumors spread, and alliances shattered. But no one suspected a single person orchestrating it all.

Lucien's attention shifted to a rival genius student, Seraphine Lys, the only one who could match him in intellect. She had noticed the strange patterns—the sudden collapses of social hierarchies and perfectly timed rumors. Her eyes, sharp and calculating, scanned the chaos.

Lucien walked past her, smiling faintly.

Ah… the first real opponent, he thought.

This will be interesting.

Seraphine met his gaze and nodded ever so slightly. She knew someone was pulling the strings… but she didn't know who.

And that was exactly how Lucien liked it.

The day ended, and the academy descended into whispers, confusion, and subtle paranoia. Students left, exhausted, unaware that their lives had been carefully manipulated for hours by a single, invisible hand.

Lucien stepped onto the empty rooftop as the sun set. Wind whipped past him, carrying the faint sound of the city below.

The board is set, he whispered.

And the game… has only just begun.

Above the horizon, the first stars appeared. Cold, distant… silent observers of the chaos he created.

Lucien closed his eyes.

Soon, they will all know my name… and by then, it will be too late.
