Chapter 10 - You Lost the Right

The room was suffocatingly quiet.Zavian sat on the edge of the bed, his sharp gaze locked onto Ingrid. She didn't even look at him—her eyes glued to her phone, fingers scrolling as if nothing else in the world mattered.

As if he didn't matter.

A dangerous glint flashed in his eyes.

"Ingrid."

No response.

His jaw clenched.

"Ingrid," he called again, this time colder, heavier.

She sighed in irritation and finally looked up. "What?"

That single word—dismissive, careless—snapped something inside him.

Zavian leaned closer, his voice low but laced with steel. "Are you upset with me… baby?"

A mocking laugh escaped her lips.

"Shouldn't I be?" Her eyes burned into his. "You left your wife and your son for another man's son. Tell me, Zavian… how does that make you look?"

Silence.

Then—

A slow, dangerous smile curved on Zavian's lips.

"My actions?" he repeated. "You want to talk about actions?"

He stood up abruptly, towering over her.

"You pushed me away. You broke this family first. And now—" his voice dropped, sharp as a blade, "—you suddenly remember you have rights?"

"He is not your family!" Ingrid snapped, sitting upright. "That boy is a stranger!"

The temperature in the room dropped instantly.

Zavian's eyes darkened.

"Watch your words."

Ingrid froze.

Because that tone… she knew it.

"I'm warning you, Ingrid," he continued, each word slow and deliberate. "Don't test my patience."

Her heartbeat quickened—but pride held her still.

"So what? You're choosing him over your own wife?"

Zavian let out a cold, humorless chuckle.

"No," he said quietly. "I'm choosing what's right."

The words hit harder than a slap.

Then he stepped closer—close enough that she could feel the heat of his anger.

"From today," he declared, his voice absolute, "you don't get a say in my decisions anymore."

Her eyes widened.

"You lost that right."

A deadly silence fell.

"Ryan is moving upstairs," Zavian continued. "He'll live here. Eat with us. Sit at the same table."

Every word tightened like a noose.

"And he will be treated exactly like Aurora and Adams."

Ingrid's lips parted, but no sound came out.

"And one more thing," Zavian added, his gaze piercing through her, "he'll be attending the same school as them."

The final blow.

"So do your part," he finished coldly. "Get everything he needs. And make sure it's the best."

Without another glance, he turned and lay on the bed, his back facing her.

Conversation over.

Authority established.

And for the first time—

Ingrid felt powerless.

The Next Morning

Soft sunlight crept into the room.

Ryan lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling, lost in a storm of thoughts too heavy for someone his age.

A knock came.

Before he could answer, the door opened.

"Good morning, Ryan."

Zavian.

Riaan quickly sat up. "Good morning, Uncle."

Zavian walked in, his presence calm—but commanding as always. He sat beside the boy, studying him closely.

"Ryan."

"Yes, Uncle?"

"You'll be resuming school next week. Monday."

Ryan blinked.

"You'll be going with Aurora and Adams."

For a brief moment—

His eyes lit up.

A spark of excitement.

But just as quickly…

It vanished.

Zavian noticed immediately.

His brows furrowed. "What's wrong?"

Riaan hesitated, then lowered his gaze.

"It's nothing…"

Zavian didn't move.

Didn't speak.

He simply waited.

And that silence… broke Ryan.

"I'm just…" he swallowed. "I'm going to miss my friends. My teachers… my school."

His voice was small.

Fragile.

Honest.

For a second, something shifted in Zavian's expression.

Something softer.

Something human.

He placed a firm hand on Ryan's shoulder.

"You'll make new ones."

Ryan looked up slowly.

"And this time," Zavian added, his voice steady, "you won't be alone."

Those words lingered.

Deep.

Powerful.

Ryan's chest tightened.

"Really…?" he asked quietly.

Zavian nodded once. "Really."

A small smile broke through the sadness.

"Thank you, Uncle."

Zavian stood.

"There's no need to thank me," he said. "Now go get ready."

He paused at the door, then added—

"From today… you eat with us. At the dining table."

Riaan froze.

His breath caught.

"With… everyone?" he asked softly.

Zavian didn't turn back.

"Yes."

And then he left.

The door clicked shut.

Ryan sat there, unmoving.

His heart pounding.

His world… slowly changing.

And for the first time in a long time—

He wasn't afraid of it.
