CHAPTER ONE: The End That Didn't End

Serah never believe in endings.

Not real ones.

Even when people said goodbye, she always thought there was a hidden "say you later"

Tucked somewhere between the words.

But that night proved her wrong.

The rain fell heavily against the glass windows of the small cafè where everything began—and now, everything is ending.

The same table. The same corner. But nothing felt the same anymore.

Jayden sat across from her, quiet… too quiet.

Serah's fingers trembled slightly as she wrapped them around her untouched cup of coffee. It had gone cold, just like the space between them.

"Say something," she finally whispered, her voice barely audible over the rain.

Jayden exhaled slowly, running his hand through his hair. That habit. The one she used to find cute. Now it only made her chest tighten.

"I don't think this is working anymore, Serah."

Fourteen words.

That was all it took to break two years of love.

Serah blinked, as if her mind needed time to process what her heart had already felt coming .

"What do you mean… not working?" she asked, forcing a small laugh that didn't sound like hers.

Jayden looked away.

And that was when she knew.

Because Jayden never looked away when he meant what he said.

"I'm tired," he added. "We keep trying, but it's just… not the same."

Not the same.

Those three words echoed louder than anything else.

Serah swallowed hard. "So that's it? After everything?"

He didn't answer immediately.

And silence… silence can be crueler than the truth.

"I think we need to let each other go."

Let each other go.

As if love was something you could just drop and walk away from.

Serah nodded slowly, even though every part of her screamed to fight, to beg, to hold on.

But she didn't.

Because love shouldn't feel like something you have to convince someone to stay for.

"Okay," she said softly.

Jayden finally looked at her then, surprised. Maybe he expected tears. Maybe he expected anger.

But Serah gave him neither.

She simply stood up, picked up her bag, and looked at him one last time.

"Goodbye, Jayden."

And just like that…

She walked away from the person who once felt like her entire world.
