Riley's POV
Days had passed, and finally Zoey's birthday celebration was here.
We had already arranged for extra security around the party to ensure Stella couldn't show up and cause any chaos. With that worry handled, I found myself genuinely excited for once. Mom gave me permission to skip my assignments for the day, and the moment I rolled out of bed, I began the massive task of filling water balloons.
Victor strolled through our back door like he owned the place. Lately, he'd been making himself completely at home here. I couldn't be entirely certain, but something was definitely brewing between him and Mom. It was about time too, considering I'd never seen her with anyone before. He caught sight of me hunched over the kitchen sink and burst into laughter.
"What exactly are you doing there?" he asked, and I couldn't help but laugh along with him.
"Just setting up some pre-party entertainment for Zoey and the guys," I explained.
