Chapter 3 - [ 3 ] In the Void

13 years earlier...

"..."

'Huh… did I… die?' I look around.

I'm sitting in a completely dark place.

I came to that conclusion after pinching myself and feeling nothing, confirming this wasn't just another one of those weird dreams.

"How did this happen?..."

I had just gone to sleep after getting home from a stressful exam at school, damn math…

"ANYONE THERE??!!" My voice echoes through the darkness, with no response.

"..."

Thum!!

Out of nowhere, a bright white panel appears in front of me, making me jump back in surprise and blinding me for a few seconds.

"MY EYES!!!!"

I stand up and squint, trying to read the message.

[ You have died, and will now be reincarnated into another world ]

'Oh, how subtle, I guess.'

'It's strange, I don't feel desperate, nor sad… Come to think of it, I don't feel anything, just emptiness…'

I hope that's just something about this place...

I don't want to become some emotionless maniac…

The message flickers, changing the text.

This time, the font is wavy and colorful, like one of those bad PowerPoint presentations.

[ You will receive abilities based on a character, a talent related to them, and a guide to help you refine those abilities ]

"Hm, so I won't get instant mastery over the abilities?"

My question goes unanswered, and the text changes again.

[ You also have the right to purchase some items from the shop of a game you already know ]

The message flickers once more, now turning into a familiar shop, filled with items I know well.

I've spent quite a few hours of my life playing this...

"The LoL shop… I have 3000 gold to spend…"

I look over the panel.

In the upper right, I find artwork of a figure clad in dark armor with red details, along with two eyes glowing a vivid red beneath a helmet that covers the entire face.

Outside the shop window, alongside a message that reads: [ Assassin Talent and Assassin's Guide ]

"Zed… so I'll have his abilities? Very nice. It would be terrible if I ended up like Kog'Maw or something…"

I shudder at the thought of vomiting to attack my enemies.

My eyes drift to the lower right corner, where there are a few messages outside the shop window.

[ World Tip: Enemy Regeneration ]

Not very helpful… There are tons of those in anime… in Runeterra too…

Does this mean that all my enemies will regenerate, or only some of them?

'Urghh...'

The other message reads: [ The shop cannot be used again, nor can more gold be obtained. Items are not physical, except for potions. ]

Sighing, I quickly search for Guardian Angel.

The passive of that item would be absurd, being able to revive infinitely like in the game…

"It costs 3200 gold… I only have 3000… Sigh, no G.A then…"

"Wait… how would the Refillable Potion work outside the game?"

The Refillable Potion requires the player to return to base to recharge… but this isn't a game anymore.

Thinking about it, I click on the potion and read the description.

[ Refillable Potion, 150g: 2 charges. Refills every midnight. Regenerates a portion of damage taken. ]

"So some items were adapted…"

I immediately add the Refillable Potion to my inventory.

Knowing about the world tip, I also decide to include Executioner's Calling to have healing reduction.

[ Executioner's Calling, 800g: Slightly increases attack damage. Applies Grievous Wounds on contact; the effect lasts a few seconds (the effect reduces healing, but does not negate it). ]

"I won't be able to get a big item like that… but I think these two will be worth it."

"Now, what about the rest of the gold…"

I consider boots and take a look at them.

Boots of Speed would be nice, there are ability haste ones, lifesteal ones… how would lifesteal even work in real life?... and… Symbiotic Boots?

In the game, they evolve after walking a certain distance.

Once evolved, they speed up returning to base and grant movement speed out of combat.

'How would they work?' I click on the boots to check the description.

[ Symbiotic Boots, 900g: Grant increased movement speed; evolve after walking a certain distance;

After the first evolution: Become "Synchronized Souls." Increase movement speed out of combat.

Once per day, can grant a large out-of-combat speed boost.

Evolve after a period of time; walking reduces this time;

After the final evolution: Become "Always Forward." Gain even more movement speed.

Previous out-of-combat movement speed buffs become standard movement speed.

Once per day, allows teleportation over a certain distance;

With each evolution, all previous buffs and effects are retained in the new form. ]

"..."

"Okay… that's cool."

I add the boots to my inventory.

The evolution of the boots seems to be free as well, in the game, we would have to pay an extra 500 gold to reach Always Forward, in addition to meeting certain requirements.

With the remaining 1150 gold, I carefully browse the shop, but in the end, I decide to pick up a Sheen and a Dagger.

Sheen, 900g: Grants some ability haste. After using an ability, the next attack deals additional damage.

Dagger, 250g: Slightly increases attack speed.

"Hm, that should be it…"

"Alright, I'm ready!"

The panel flickers when I say those words, and the text changes one last time.

[ Good luck! ]

[ *Note: You will receive your abilities and your memories back when the right time comes* ]

"Wait, what??!!"

In an instant, I lose consciousness, being sent to another world.

[A/N]: Looking at the item system nowadays, I think I could do something cool with the League of Legends shop, with a protagonist being able to use the shop at any time.

Unfortunately, the store wasn't a focus I wanted here.

Maybe in another story...

What items would you choose if you were in the protagonist's place?

(The store I used as a base is not the one currently in the game; it's been a while since I chose these items.)
