[The Omniverse - Sector 9 Glacial Labyrinth]
The piercing, sub-zero gales of the glacial trenches howled through the visor of Leo's dented helmet. His hands were completely numb, the frostbite creeping along his knuckles as he stared down the newly downsized, automated boss of the frost sector.
He was completely bankrupt. He couldn't afford the Abyssal Sprint subscription to dodge, and his sword's critical hit multipliers were entirely paywalled.
"I have to use it," Leo whispered, his core body temperature dropping to lethal levels. He dropped his corporate weapon into the freezing mud. "They can lock the software, but they can't lock my ancestry. Grandfathers of the Northern Peaks... awaken the Phoenix Heart!"
Leo closed his eyes, his physical frame violently trembling. Deep within his chest, his ancient, inherited elven-hero bloodline surged. A magnificent, blinding column of natural, organic emerald fire erupted from his skin, completely melting the ice traps around his boots and instantly regenerating his frostbitten fingers without a single drop of corporate potion liquid.
BZZZZT.
A high-pitched, metallic alarm shrieked from a mechanical scrying-drone hovering in the blizzard. A red holographic blueprint grid snapped directly onto Leo's glowing chest, mapping the exact chemical frequency of his DNA.
[CRITICAL INFRINGEMENT DETECTED: UNLICENSED CELLULAR REPRODUCTION.]
[BIOMETRIC GENE SEQUENCE CONFIRMS EXPLORATION OF PATENTED PROPERTY.]
The emerald fire died instantly, smothered by a wave of cold, kinetic compliance magic. Leo choked, falling to his knees as his bloodline aura vanished.
A sleek, obsidian portal ripped open in the snow drift. Victor Thorne stepped onto the frozen stone, his midnight-blue suit perfectly insulating him from the sub-zero gale. Seraphina stood behind him, her glasses coated in frost as she pulled a glowing red legal injunction from her silver clipboard.
"Your ancestral lineage is an unregistered biological monopoly, Leo," Victor said smoothly, taking a slow sip of his black coffee.
"This is my blood!" Leo screamed, coughing up frost as he clutched his chest. "My grandfathers fought the old wars with this fire! It's a natural trait born inside my cells! You can't put a price tag on my literal DNA!"
"Your DNA was public property until Abyssal Data sequenced and mapped the human genome during last quarter's optimization audit," Victor corrected him flatly, his cold, calculating eyes staring through the hero. He tapped his gold-nibbed pen against the Ledger. "We officially filed a utility patent on the specific nucleotide sequence that triggers the Phoenix Heart aura within this jurisdiction. Your cells are executing an unlicensed manufacturing of our intellectual property."
"You patented my birthright?!" Leo wept, his spirit completely, totally hollowed out.
"I protected our biological asset classes," Victor smiled a ruthless smile.
Seraphina pushed her glasses up her nose, reading from the brief. "Under the Omniversal Bio-Patent Act, any contractor deploying patented genetic traits without an active corporate material transfer agreement is subject to an immediate ninety-percent 'Gene-Use Tariff.' Furthermore, your current biological output has disrupted the local retail market for our premium health potions."
"If you wish to keep utilizing your bloodline's natural regeneration," Victor adjusted his midnight-blue cuffs, "your village must sign a Generational Inheritance Debt contract via the Ledger. If you default, the software will permanently initiate a targeted cellular deprecation sequence, remotely locking the genes inside your bone marrow."
Leo stared at the cold, glowing pen Victor held out through the blizzard. He could either let his biological functions be remotely deactivated by a corporate license, or sign his unborn children into corporate debt slavery. He reached out his frozen hand, took the pen, and signed. Victor Thorne had successfully paywalled the literal evolution of the human species, logging their bloodlines directly onto his quarterly revenue sheet.
