Chapter 61 - Quantitative Easing

[Dimension 814: Aethelgard - The Holy Capital]

The streets of Aethelgard's capital were in absolute turmoil. Not because of a demon attack, but because a single loaf of bread now cost fifty thousand Gold.

Victor Thorne walked through the chaotic marketplace, his midnight-blue suit pristine and completely unaffected by the rioting peasants. Seraphina walked beside him, her violet eyes scanning the data on her silver clipboard.

"The automated combat script is running flawlessly, Principal Thorne," Seraphina reported over the noise of the crowd. "Demon Lord Malakor has executed his tactical retreat protocol exactly four hundred times this week, dropping four hundred Ultra-Rare loot crates."

"And the macroeconomic result?" Victor asked smoothly, sidestepping a merchant who was crying over a wheel of cheese.

"Hyperinflation," Seraphina smirked. "The 9,999 Chosen Ones are liquidating their boss-loot in the capital's shops. There is too much gold in circulation. The value of the local currency has plummeted to zero. The economy is entirely broken."

A blinding beam of light struck the cobblestones in front of them. Goddess Lumina descended, her six wings trembling with divine stress.

"You!" Lumina pointed a glowing finger at Victor. "Your cursed loot crates are destroying my world! The heroes are rich, but the mortals are starving! You must stop the Demon Lord from dropping so much gold!"

"I cannot breach a vendor contract, Lumina," Victor pulled his gold pocket watch from his vest. "Malakor's drops are guaranteed by his royalty agreement. However, I can offer your dimension a centralized financial restructure."

Victor tapped his gold-nibbed pen against the Tycoon's Ledger.

"Gold is archaic. It is heavy, untraceable, and prone to inflation," Victor announced, his Tycoon's Aura projecting over the rioting marketplace. "Effective immediately, the Pantheon Group is decoupling Aethelgard from the gold standard."

Lumina blinked. "Decoupling? What does that mean?"

"It means your heroes will no longer receive gold," Victor slashed his pen across the Ledger. "I am introducing a proprietary digital fiat currency: Pantheon Tokens. They possess absolutely no intrinsic real-world value. They exist solely within the Pantheon Drive ecosystem."

Victor looked up at the Goddess, his eyes cold and calculating.

"The heroes will be paid in Tokens. They can only spend Tokens at approved Pantheon Kiosks to buy cosmetic armor upgrades and digital health potions. I have effectively trapped their wealth inside a closed-loop digital economy that I entirely control. Inflation is solved. You're welcome."
