Chapter 58 - Cloud Storage

[Dimension 814: Aethelgard - The Slime Plains]

Ryder was a Chosen One. He had spiky hair, a harem of adoring elf maidens, and an overpowered "Cheat Skill" that allowed him to instantly kill any monster he looked at.

He had just vaporized an entire horde of Platinum Slimes. The ground was littered with hundreds of ultra-rare swords, gold coins, and legendary armor pieces.

Ryder groaned, kicking a pile of gold. "Dammit! My leather backpack is full again! I have to walk all the way back to the capital to sell this junk!"

"Excuse me, valued hero."

Ryder spun around. Standing in the middle of the blood-soaked plains was a sleek, perfectly pristine obsidian kiosk that certainly hadn't been there a minute ago. Standing behind the counter was Lord Sterling, the High-Vampire noble, wearing a Pantheon Group nametag and a pressed crimson vest.

"Who are you?!" Ryder drew his glowing sword. "Are you a mid-boss?!"

"I am a Regional Sales Director," Sterling smiled, his fangs perfectly hidden. "I couldn't help but notice you are suffering from a severe lack of inventory optimization. Carrying physical loot is so archaic. May I interest you in Pantheon Drive?"

Sterling tapped a glowing rune on the counter. A sleek, blue holographic interface popped into the air.

"Pantheon Drive is an extra-dimensional Cloud Storage solution," Sterling pitched flawlessly, gesturing to the glowing screen. "You simply toss your legendary loot into this localized spatial rift, and you can summon it back to your hand anywhere in the world with a single thought. No weight limits. No backpacks."

Ryder's eyes widened. "Infinite inventory space? For real?! How much does it cost?"

"That is the best part," Sterling held up a golden contract. "The first thirty days are a completely free trial. Just sign here to accept the Terms of Service."

Ryder didn't even read the microscopic text. He excitedly grabbed the pen, signed his name, and immediately dumped all his legendary swords, gold, and health potions into the glowing blue portal.

Thirty-one days later.

Ryder stood in the molten heart of the Demon Lord's volcano. His elf maidens were unconscious. The towering, fiery Demon Lord raised its massive axe to crush the Chosen One.

"You're finished!" Ryder smirked arrogantly. He reached his hand into the air, mentally accessing his Pantheon Drive to summon his ultimate weapon, the 'God-Slayer Blade'.

BZZZT.

Instead of a sword, a bright red holographic terminal materialized in front of his face.

[ERROR: 30-Day Free Trial Expired.] [Your Pantheon Drive account is currently locked due to non-payment. To access your legendary inventory, please upgrade to Pantheon Premium for 50,000 Gold per month.]

Ryder froze, staring at the error screen as the Demon Lord's axe swung down. "Wait! My sword! Just give me my sword!"

Up in the Principal's Office of the Abyssal Academy, Victor Thorne watched the live scrying feed of the volcano.

Ryder was instantly crushed by the Demon Lord.

"User Ryder has been liquidated, Principal Thorne," Seraphina noted on her clipboard.

"Excellent," Victor took a sip of his coffee. "Since he is deceased, his Pantheon Drive account is in default. Activate the repossession clause."

With a flick of Victor's pen, the Tycoon's Ledger chimed. Every single legendary sword, ultra-rare potion, and gold coin Ryder had stored in the "Cloud" was legally transferred directly into Victor's offshore vault in the Shattered Void.

"The SaaS model is incredibly lucrative," Victor smiled a ruthless smile, watching the wealth counter tick upwards. "Roll out the Free Trial to the remaining nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine heroes."
